'I found the only fantasy series that rivals ACOTAR.'

So you've powered through five A Court of Thorns and Roses books, demolished the Throne of Glass series and now Crescent City is coming to a close. You're wondering: what world can I step into next in order to satisfy the thirsty, spice-loving reader Sarah J. Maas has turned me into?

Oh, you've dabbled in Rebecca Yarros' Fourth Wing and binged Iron Flame and Onyx Storm. Perhaps you, like I, even spent days scouring TikTok for theories about our favourite dragon riders. But still, the ACOTAR world keeps calling. And while Sarah J. Maas has promised the 6th ACOTAR book is coming (late this year or early next), we're left staring down a long wait with zero hot fae men to keep us satisfied.

Well, fear not. I have discovered a new series that I think (don't come for me, I know how rabid we can be about our book boyfriends) stacks up to the ACOTAR universe.

Welcome into your bedroom, the Kingdom of Lies series by Kiwi writer Stacia Stark.

Watch: If all the girls in the world could read. Post continues after video.

Now there are things that really tick my romantasy boxes and one of those is that there must be a strong female protagonist. Now, I don't necessarily mean physically strong, like Violet Sorrengail would probably fall to pieces if you kicked her in the knee enough times, but in the Kingdom of Lies series, we are introduced to Prisca.

Prisca is a young woman surviving in a small village in Eprotha, a human kingdom ruled by King Sabium.

Eprothan humans are born with a small amount of power, but as payment for protecting them from the fae and hybrids in a past war, they sacrifice their power to the gods.

Some humans, however, have their sacrifice rejected by the gods. They keep their power and are known as "the corrupt" — a feared and hated group who will spend their lives either being hunted by King Sabium's men or in hiding.

Can you guess which one Prisca is?

The second thing that rocks my romantasy world is a morally grey male main character.

Meet Lorian.

Impossibly hot, built like (in my imagination) a Jason Mamoa, Michael B Jordan or Chris Hemsworth as Thor. He's on a mission that seems pretty dang suspect when he stumbles across our heroine, Prisca.

Do they immediately fall in love? Heck no! It wouldn't be a good romantasy saga if that happened right at the get-go. No, we will travel through four books with these two while Stark builds a world for us full of power, monsters (both of the monstery and the human kind) of political strategy and character building.

Listen to Mamamia Out Loud hosts discuss the books that changed their lives. Post continued below.

We hate some characters before we fall hopelessly in love with them. Others are loathsome from start to finish, while some who we pin our hopes on will ultimately let us down. It's everything this romantasy lover needs in her life right now.

As Prisca's circle of friends tightens, we will absolutely wish we had fire-throwing, ice-wielding, water controllers at our side.

Look, I know the question you're all probably dying to ask, and I got you: What about the spice? Will it satisfy that deep need to picture a man with pointy ears and possibly wings?

I'm sorry to say the wings part no, but the rest is a resounding, deeply moaned yes!

It's around a 3.5 on my spice scale and that's exactly where I like it. It's hot, it's wet, it's a man worshipping his woman in the way only a book boyfriend can — with all the growling, rumbling, physically inspiring moves you will definitely think about later.

Here are the four book titles:

My last piece of advice after reading this series: do not finish one without having the next one on your bookshelf or Kindle ready to go. Stacia Stark is a master of cliffhangers, so be prepared.
