Queen Mary was 28 when she met King Frederik in a Sydney pub. This is their family life now.

As Princess Isabella of Denmark recently celebrated her milestone 18th birthday, we take a closer look at King Frederik X and Queen Mary's four children, who are growing up in the spotlight of the Danish royal family. Aussies continue to feel immense national pride in their "homegrown heroine" Queen Mary, with many celebrating her historic rise from Tasmanian local to the first Australian-born queen consort.

As it appears, all four royal children have benefited from their parents' determined efforts to give them as normal an upbringing as possible, while also preparing them for their future roles. King Frederik and Queen Mary have been praised for their hands-on parenting approach, balancing royal duties with family life.

The children have been raised bilingual, speaking both Danish and English fluently (thanks to their Australian mother), and have been educated in Danish schools rather than private international institutions, helping them connect with the people they will one day represent.

As the eldest child of King Frederik and Queen Mary, 18-year-old Crown Prince Christian is now the heir apparent to the Danish throne following his father's coronation in January 2024. Born on October 15, 2005, Christian's 18th birthday in 2023 was celebrated with significant fanfare.

The celebrations included a changing of the guard at Amalienborg Palace, an appearance on the palace balcony alongside his grandmother (then-Queen Margrethe II), and a gala dinner at Christiansborg Castle attended by guests representing the youth of Denmark and European royalty.

As the future king, Christian's education has been tailored to prepare him for his eventual role as monarch. He has begun representing the Danish royal family at official events and is developing the diplomatic skills necessary for his position.

The Danish royal family's second child and eldest daughter, Princess Isabella, turned 18 in April 2025, marking her official entry into adulthood. As the daughter of King Frederik X and Queen Mary, Isabella has grown up balancing royal duties with a normal teenage life.

Born on April 21, 2007, Princess Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe has blossomed into a confident young woman with a growing public profile. Like her mother Queen Mary, she has shown interest in humanitarian causes and sustainability issues.

Isabella currently attends school in Denmark, and as she steps into her adult royal role, she is expected to take on more patronages and responsibilities. Her 18th birthday celebrations included family gatherings and official acknowledgements, though maintaining a lower profile than her elder brother's similar milestone.

Prince Vincent Frederik Minik Alexander, one of the royal twins, is now 14 years old. Born on January 8, 2011, just 26 minutes before his twin sister, Vincent is fourth in line to the Danish throne.

Like his siblings, Prince Vincent attends school alongside other Danish children, as his parents, hope to ensure that he has as normal an upbringing as possible despite his royal status.

The young prince has shown interest in outdoor activities and sports, following in his father's footsteps who is known for his athletic pursuits. Vincent has been gradually introduced to public royal duties, appearing at official events and royal celebrations alongside his family.

Royal twin Princess Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda is the youngest of the royal children. She is Vincent's twin sister and fifth in line to the throne. At 14 years old, she has already begun to develop her own personality and interests within the royal family.

Like her twin brother and older siblings, Josephine attends school and participates in family royal engagements. She has frequently been photographed with her mother, Queen Mary at various events.

The princess reportedly shares her mother's interest in fashion and the arts, though her parents are careful to shield details of their children's private lives and personal interests from excessive media attention.
