Kim Kardashian had a Twitter meltdown about her weight, and it was really sad.

Kim Kardashian is not exactly the kind of person we collectively feel sorry for. She’s made a career out of being famous, and, since she married Kanye, has officially become one half of what most people consider the douchiest couple in the world.

But Kim K’s recent Twitter rant about her weight has shown that, while a life based on superficiality may have made her wildly rich and incredibly successful, it’s also having an affect on her body image that is, well, really sad.

Take a look at this series of tweets she sent out today:

And just a few days ago, there was this:

“#FBF ughhh I am 20 lbs lighter here! This was just 5 years ago! OK I’m going back on my grind. I gotta get back here!”

And before that there was this:

“Throwback to a few years ago #SkinnyDays #OnTheTreadmillRightNOW”

Kim Kardashian has clearly been feeling crappy about her body lately. It’s not surprising; even a brief glance at her Instagram feed proves that she values her appearance above any and all other qualities.

And although she’s made a career out of it, defining your worth based on your looks is a very scary and precarious place to be.

People get older. Women have babies. Life happens. Looks change. If we consider appearance the only currency that buys self-worth, we are always going to feel worthless.

That’s why it’s sad, but not surprising, to see Kim struggling right now. Her entire sense of worth is based on her appearance, and that means a bit of weight gain after having a baby is making her feel like shit.

This is what happens when you place all of your self-worth currency on your appearance.

But, everybody has more to offer than their looks, even Kim Kardashian. And if she could find value in herself completely unrelated to her body, she wouldn’t be using hashtags like #ughhh to describe herself.
