When Kim Kardashian walked on to the white carpet at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards I was confused.
Not by the fact that she looked amazing her sheer Galliano dress.

Not that she looked fresh faced with a much less heavy heavy makeup look than we’ve seen from her in a while.

I was confused as to how her hair was doing that wet beach look.
Logically I know it’s not wet. If it was it would be dripping all over her dress, the carpet and Kanye West’s white t-shirt. (Though I’d pay to watch Kanye West compete in a wet t-shirt contest.) And it would have dried by the time she stepped on stage to introduce Britney Spears. Also, her hair has too much body, and movement to just be hair spray wet.
How did she do that?! What kind of witchcraft is this?
Turns out, the kind that contains snail essence.
If you’re imagining Kim Kardashian standing over a cauldron stirring snail essence, toad hearts and reciting “Double, double toil and trouble,” I’m going to stop you there. The magic potion Kardashian used came pre-made.
According to Kardashian’s hairstylist Michael Silva, the key to Kardashian’s wet look was Kenra’s new Platinum Snail CC Crème ($25) which contains actual snail essence.
In an email with Bustle, Silva said that he and Kardashaian were going for a “fresh and sexy look” that was about “perfecting and enhancing her natural texture.”

Silva used the Platinum Snail CC Creme, as a primer on Kardashian’s damp hair, smoothing it from mid-length to the ends. He then added Kenra’s Platinum Revive Oil followed by Kenra Platinum Texturizing Mist to bring out the wave.
From there he dried her hair with ghd’s Air Hairdryer with a diffuser avoiding touching her hair with his hands as much as possible. He then used the ghd Platinum Styler to polish up the waves, finishing with Kenra Platinum Silkening Mist, more Revive Oil, and Kenra Platinum Finishing Spray to lock in shine and block out humidity.

Turns out the wet look was the result of a lot of heat, and a lot of product. Though I’m not completely convinced she’s not a witch.
