The intimate details of Kim Kardashian's divorce are set to be disclosed in a new documentary.

The documentary film In Whose Name? will offer a raw and unfiltered look into the tumultuous marriage and divorce between Kanye 'Ye' West and the SKIMS founder.

Filmed over a period of six years, the documentary provides an unprecedented glimpse into the couple's most private moments.

The footage is being described as the most intimate we've seen, as it captures unsettling scenes and arguments between the couple, including candid discussions about West's mental health struggles and the eventual breakdown of their marriage.

The film is compiled from over 3,000 hours of footage shot of West for 15 hours a day by filmmaker Nico Ballesteros, who had close access to the couple.

The documentary promises to present a complex portrait of two of the most influential figures in pop culture history.

Kim has not publicly expressed her support for the film, which suggests that its contents are not something she is comfortable sharing on the world stage.

However, the teaser for the upcoming documentary has laid bare the tense dynamic between Kim and her husband in the final days of their marriage.

In a trailer for the documentary, the rapper spoke about going off medication for bipolar disorder. He has since clarified that he was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, and has now been diagnosed as autistic.

In the trailer, West can be heard saying, "I'm off my meds for five months now."

Kardashian's voice can be heard in the background, as she sobs while telling her then-husband: "Your personality was not like this a few years ago."

In another part of the trailer, an argument erupts as Ye rants that Kim will "never tell" him that he will "wake up one day and have nothing."

In response, Kim says "We can talk about that later, but..."

West cuts her off, snapping at his then-wife, "It ain't no but!"

It makes for extremely disturbing viewing, showing a woman who appears broken and a man in the grips of a mental health crisis.

The years leading up to Kim's filing for divorce were especially turbulent for the formerly golden couple.

Once affectionately known as 'Kimye', the couple was the epitome of a Hollywood love story, fronting the cover of American Vogue and their friends-turned-lovers romance playing out on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, including Kanye's wholesome proposal to Kim in 2013.

The couple married in Italy in 2014 and would go on to welcome four children together: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm West.

But towards the end of their seven-year marriage, the couple became synonymous with controversy.

In 2019, West purchased a ranch in Wyoming where he divided his time between their family home in LA.

As West spent more time in Wyoming, reports began to surface that Kardashian had no desire to relocate permanently to the rural state, causing friction in their marriage.

A year before their official separation, in 2020, West's public behaviour became especially erratic.

During his first presidential campaign rally in North Charleston, South Carolina, a visibly emotional West revealed deeply personal information, stating that he and Kardashian had considered aborting their first child, North.

Shortly after the rally, West took to Twitter with a series of alarming posts. In a now-deleted tweet, he accused his then-wife of trying to "lock me up" with doctors. In another series of tweets, he targeted his mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, referring to her as "Kris Jong-Un" and accusing her of 'white supremacy'.

Throughout this period and into the following year, West's public statements became increasingly concerning. While not always directly aimed at Kardashian, he made a range of anti-Semitic comments and questioned whether "slavery was a choice".

Kim Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021, and West's behaviour continued to escalate.

The rapper made several public romantic declarations to Kim in an attempt to reconcile. During a benefit concert with Drake in December 2021, while performing his song 'Runaway', West ad-libbed the line "I need you to run right back to me. More specifically, Kimberly."

After Kardashian began a relationship with SNL comedian Pete Davidson, West launched a campaign of online harassment against him.

This included coining the derogatory nickname 'Skete' for Davidson and encouraging his followers to abuse Pete if they saw him in public.

The harassment escalated in early 2022 with a series of Instagram posts featuring screenshots of private text messages between himself, Kardashian, and Davidson.

The music video for his song 'Eazy' released in March 2022, depicted a Claymation version of Davidson being kidnapped, tied up and buried alive. A second animated video for the same song showed a skinned monkey attacking a character resembling Davidson.

He has continued to make comments about Kim, especially criticising his access to his kids.

In January 2022, he publicly claimed he was not given the address for his daughter Chicago's fourth birthday party.

Since marrying Bianca Censori, he has consistently made critical remarks on X about their custody arrangement and Kim's parenting choices, such as allowing North to have a TikTok account.

In a February episode of The Kardashians, Kim made a rare comment about why she ended her marriage to Kanye.

"You don't foresee something happening that really changes a person's personality and then they're not the same person and you can't ever get that person back, but you can't live with the new person," she told her sister, Khloé Kardashian.

Kim elaborated in a confessional. "It's tougher when you don't want your marriage to end off of personal reasons but circumstances change that force your marriage to end," she said.

In Whose Name? is set to be released in select theatres on September 19, 2025. It's unclear whether the documentary will get a theatrical release in Australia.
