Kanye West's emotional birthday present for Kim Kardashian will bring tears to your eyes.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned to expect from any Kardashian birthday, it’s extravagance.

However this year – for one family member at least – it’s very different.

Today (October 21st) is Kim Kardashian‘s 36th birthday, but there’ll likely be no wild Las Vegas party, to-the-minute Snapchats or the extravagant gift hauls that we’ve seen in the past.

Just weeks after she was held hostage and robbed at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room, the reality TV star has still yet to comment or post on any of her social media channels.

For the first time in many years, we have no idea how she is spending her special day.

However husband Kanye West has broken his social media silence to give her arguably the best birthday present possible - no diamonds in sight.

Tweeting the simple words "Happy Birthday Babe", the rapper shared a five minute video of never-before-seen family footage.

It's Kim and the Kardashian family as you've never seen them before - and it will give you goosebumps.

Delving deep into the archives, the film heavily features Kim's father Robert who died in 2003.

In the clip, we see Kim as a toddler, as a teenager, witnessing the birth of her siblings, playing tennis, having fun with her family, playing with her sisters, celebrating Christmas and birthdays - generally laughing and playing in candid moments that are far from the scripted version we've come to know.

It's perhaps a timely reminder for some that whatever you think of her, Kardashian is above all a human being with thoughts, feelings and after the last few weeks likely fears - just like you or I.

It's a beautiful gift from West.

Family and friends also shared throwback pictures and messages for the 36-year-old, including siblings Kourtney, Khloe, Robert, Kendall and Kylie.

Mum Kris Jenner wrote, "Happy Birthday to my precious Kimberly! I love and adore you... you have brought so much joy into all of our lives and you are the most wonderful daughter, wife, sister, friend and mom. I thank God every day he blessed me with you and I cherish every single moment and memory. My heart is full of gratitude and I love you more than you will ever imagine or know... Mommy xo."

Kim's go-to makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic also shared a long birthday message for the star.

I'll never forget how calm, sweet and respectful you were that day. I thought you were the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen. 10 years later and nothing has changed," he wrote.

While Kim has been notably absent from social media since the Paris robbery, sister Khloe updated the media on her wellbeing earlier this week.

"I mean, definitely it's been an incredibly traumatic experience for Kim and she's definitely taking some well needed and much deserved time off," she told told the Associated Press.

"I think it's just a wake-up call for everybody. ... But we definitely are just being more aware, and I think just making changes to our lives that I think at the end of the day, are positive changes."
