At 67, Kim Cattrall is at a career high. She says her biggest challenge is 'staying relevant'.

Last week, Kim Cattrall returned to her iconic role as Samantha Jones in the season two finale of And Just Like That. 

After years of feuding with the series' producers and her former cast members, the actor's glorious 73-second return has been warmly received. 

And Cattrall is revelling in it.

The 67-year-old is on the September cover of Vogue Greece, and in an acompanying interview spoke about chasing success and "relevance". 

"Speaking for me, a woman in her sixties that is, I think the biggest challenge is to continue to be relevant, to work, to be able to convey a message, to be relevant," she told the publication.

Cattrall confessed she related to her mother, who wasn't happy in her own job.

"I have always had my mother as a role model. Although she could never connect with a job that would make her happy, and was depressed and alone for long periods of time, she never lost her stubbornness," she added.

"That's something she passed on to me. I am thankful to her for teaching me to defend myself and not allow others to control my narrative. That is a very important lesson for young women."

Cattrall's mother passed away in December 2022, aged 93.

The actor's strong admiration for her mother's lesson in defending herself was seen in February 2018, following the death of her younger brother Christopher, who passed away at 55. 

After Sarah Jessica Parker, Cattrall's Sex And The City costar, sent her well wishes to the actor's family, she publicly made it clear they were not friends. 

"My Mom asked me today 'When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?' Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now," Cattrall began.

"Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your 'nice girl' persona," she concluded. 

She also posted a link to a New York Post article about the "Mean Girl Culture" rumours that existed on set, seemingly indicating it was true.

In 2021, HBO Max announced the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That... but without Cattrall. 

She told Variety her thoughts on the series, sharing that it felt like "an echo of the past."

"It's odd, isn't it? I don't know how to feel about it. It's so finite for me, so it doesn't continue. I think I would ponder it more if I didn't have something like Queer as Folk or How I Met Your Father. That's kind of where I'm centred around. This feels like an echo of the past,' Cattrall said. 

"I loved [Samantha]. I loved her so, so, so much. It's tough competition. The original show is in all of our imaginations. But for me, it feels clean," she continued, adding that she doesn't think her co-stars were friends but "colleagues."

Her return to the reboot did eventually come in the second season finale of And Just Like That, but not without its demands and a rumoured USD$1 million paycheck. 

"It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, 'What can we do?' And I went, 'Hmm… Let me get creative,'" Cattrall told The View in June 2023.

"One of those things was to get Pat Field [Sex And The City's costume designer] back," she continued. 

"I just thought that if I'm going to come back I gotta come back with that Samantha style, I gotta push it, and we did."
