You’ve got to hand it to Vogue‘s Editor-in-Chief and the so-called most powerful person in fashion, Anna Wintour. The lady knows how to make a scene.
After months of denials, rumours and stories about fashion brands refusing to dress Kim, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s Vogue cover is finally here and it is, pardon my French, f*cking fabulous.
Even the cover line, “Their fashionable life and surreal times #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple”, is brilliant.
Reality TV stars and self-proclaimed hip-hop geniuses aren’t exactly key features in The Devil Wears Prada, but the fashion industry has changed a lot in the 11 years since the book (reportedly based on working with Wintour) was written. Kim, Kanye and hashtags is where we’re at now.
Which isn’t to say everyone thinks Kimye were classy enough to do Vogue. But the cover boils down to the fact that these fashion die-hards have probably sold more designer clothes than the magazine’s last six cover models combined. And they’ll sure as hell sell more copies.
Kanye constantly name-checks luxury brands in his music and collaborates with important fashion designers and photographers. Meanwhile, gossip mags pick over every item Kim wears. There’s no one richer, more visible or more fashion obsessed than Kim and Kanye, and they deserve every tweet of their moment in Vogue.
