Why the Keeping up with the Kardashians trailer has people convinced the Jordyn Woods scandal is fake.

Look.

When the Jordyn Woods/Khloe Kardashian/Tristan Thompson drama first broke, many of us yelled the following questions/statements internally:

JORDYN HOW COULD YOU

YOU HAD ONE JOB AND THAT WAS TO BE KYLIE JENNER’S PROFESSIONAL BEST FRIEND AND THIS DEFINITELY BREAKS THE RULES

HOW IS ANYONE MEANT TO EXPLAIN THIS TO STORMI

But in the background, underneath the yelling, there was a whisper. In the back of our minds, we had… doubts.

Is this just a scandal manufactured to promote the next season of Keeping up with the Kardashians?

Yes, Kris Jenner is a publicity mastermind, but surely she wouldn’t put a 21-year-old woman at the centre of an outrage storm just to get ratings for her reality show.

… Surely.

On Thursday morning Los Angeles time, E! released the latest trailer for Keeping up with the Kardashians season 16 - which premieres on March 31.

The clip opens with Khloe's voice, saying "It's really hard to regain trust..."

"Your one stupid weekend, you just demolish a relationship."

Somehow, we feel like she's talking about Tristan and his... cheatin'.

Of course, it could be a reference to Tristan's previous infidelity, given that he appears to have cheated on Khloe for always, but nonetheless, it's clear that the show is trying to leverage the tabloid story for ratings.

As soon as the trailer was posted on Instagram, fans started to suggest it was proof the entire Jordyn scandal was "made up".

"It's obvious the whole situation is staged," read one comment, from a person who presumably has a PhD in investigating gossip. "We all knew that scandal was for the show," read another.

Of course, some fans are very much used to stories about the Kardashians breaking at 'convenient' moments, and were cynical from the beginning.

Ratings for season 15, released in March 2018, were particularly low, with reports suggesting they were down 37 per cent from the previous year.

In December, a promo for the final episode of the season posted on Kris Jenner's Instagram got more views than the episode itself.

So perhaps it's unsurprising that there'd be an attempt this year to create hype ahead of the season - manufacturing a very public scandal to encourage viewers to watch the lead up and aftermath play out on TV.

Just hours after the trailer dropped, TMZ reported that Kylie Jenner had accused Travis Scott of cheating, after discovering 'evidence' of infidelity.

Last season, everyone was pregnant, and it looks like next season, everyone's going to be cheatin'.

We'll probably never know for sure whether Jordyn Woods really did hook up with Tristan Thompson, or whether it was in fact Kris Jenner in disguise/a complete lie from the beginning/a scripted plot line for the show.

But I'm not even sure it matters anymore.

We all know why we're here. And it has precisely nothing to do with the truth.
