Every disturbing detail from Kanye West's new doco, including a scene that's too hard to watch.

The Kanye West documentary that has been teased for months is finally here.

In Whose Name? is a documentary that follows the daily life of disgraced music icon Kanye 'Ye' West from 2018 to 2024.

The documentary about the husband of Bianca Censori premiered in about 1,000 theatres across the US, but hasn't been released in Australia yet. But that hasn't stopped the scenes from being widely circulated around the world.

Directed by first-time filmmaker Nico Ballesteros, who began the project as an 18-year-old, the film condenses a mammoth 3,000 hours of footage — the teenager was given unprecedented access and shot West mostly on iPhones — into a 106-minute feature.

Ballesteros has since told The Hollywood Reporter that he was not paid to make the documentary and had to take out loans to survive.

The filmmaker approached the documentary as a wider study on fame and how 'idols' are made.

"The film is not just about Kanye's fame, but about other idols, too. In Whose Name? was a question I kept asking through the years. Is it a story about Virgil? Is it a story about Trump? Is it a story about Kim?" he told THR.

"Fame is something I want to continue to study and observe. It's a phenomenon. It's why the film kind of ends with a black hole, because what's on the other side of all this from a societal lens? We don't know."

West once topped the music charts and dominated the fashion world, but has since fallen out of public favour due to his offensive comments on Jewish people, slavery, and more.

The film tackles Ye's many controversies, including his public breakdowns and his marriage and divorce from Kim Kardashian, along with the rapper's bipolar disorder diagnosis and his decision to live without medication. The theme of Ye seeking "freedom" from not taking medication is established from the beginning.

The film opens with his daughter North West talking about what happens when one goes to sleep. "Do you know if you fall asleep, you won't even walk?" she asks her father.

To this, Kanye replies, "I need to stay awake, then."

This sets the stage for his perspective on his mental health struggles, and over an hour of some rather disturbing footage. We've rounded up some of the most memorable moments from In Whose Name?

Kanye West is filmed screaming at Kris Jenner.

In one of the most uncomfortable moments in the film, a distressed Kanye is seen yelling at his then-mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, who he blames for his mental health struggles.

"Y'all demasculated me and made me feel like a piece of s**t. And the only reason you got away with it is because I was medicated," West shouts.

"I would rather be dead than be on medication."

He then claims that people on the internet were blaming the Kardashian family for Kanye's dwindling mental state. "No one from the family has taken any responsibility for my hospital visit," Ye tells Kris.

"But if you were to go online, that's 50 percent of what people say, at least. Am I lying?"

To this comment, Kris attempts to reply, "It doesn't matter…" referring to the online commentary.

"It do matter!" West screams in response, as he becomes physically agitated. "It does matter! It does matter!" he continues to scream at Kris. It's rather harrowing viewing.

Kris tries to explain that she hasn't finished her sentence. "It doesn't matter what the internet says. It matters what we think, Ye," she clarifies.

Kanye paces around the room before asking Kris: "So what do you think, did you have an effect on my mental health?"

Out of frame, Kris' voice is heard, seemingly fighting back tears. "Yes, yes, yes. I'm saying yes, and I love you," she responds.

"I love you. I don't want you to be not perfect. I love you and I want my daughter to love you the way you want her to love you."

There are several uncomfortable moments between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

There are a handful of tense confrontations between Kanye and Kim, who began dating in 2012, got married in 2014, and share four children: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.

Kim filed for divorce in 2021 and three years before filing, a phone call between the spouses was played where Kim appeared in emotional distress.

"I can't sleep. I've been crying all day," Kim told Kanye in 2018. "It's just this bad dream that's not ending."

Kanye didn't seem concerned with Kim's mental state, instead focusing on how little he cared about his career.

"I don't care about the music business," he responded. "I don't care about the work field. I'm in a slave business."

Kim replied, "Just 'cause you have a job and you work hard doesn't mean you're a slave."

Kim expresses concern that her husband was "burning bridges with companies," cautioning him that he was "gonna wake up one day and you're gonna have, like, nothing."

Kanye then explodes at his then-wife, Kim. "No! Never tell me I'm gonna wake up one day and have nothing. Never put that into the universe," he shouts.

In another scene, Kim breaks down as she tells her husband she doesn't recognise him anymore.

The moment comes after Kanye is seen screaming in his cousin's face after she expresses concern over his political beliefs.

"You're putting yourself and your family in danger of being murdered!" she warns, which prompts the rapper to scream at her to leave.

To this, Kim says that screaming at people is not acceptable. "People say no to me on a daily basis and I don't just start screaming and throwing a tantrum. That's just not okay."

West responds: "But that's just my personality."

Kim shares her concerns with his shift in personality. "Your personality was not like this a few years ago. It was very far and few in between," Kardashian says. "It was not daily, in every single conversation."

The documentary scenes stand in contrast to the family's reality TV series — which has focused on keeping the worst elements of their marriage and divorce private.

But in light of the doco, one scene from The Kardashians in 2022 has resurfaced. It shows the family gathered around the kitchen table, discussing Kanye's treatment of Kim in the public eye — and in private.

"The truth always prevails," Khloé Kardashian told her sister in the scene. "And you'll never regret being a good person."

"I think that I will never stop being me, all I can do is control how I react to something. I can't control how he treats me, or how he has always treated you guys," she tells her family. "I protected that for so long but I will never let that happen to you guys again. For once in my life I feel strong, I'm not going to let anyone treat you guys that way."

In a piece to camera, Kim adds: "I do recognise the impact my relationship has had on my family and that I've never had the opportunity to just say I'm sorry guys."

Sean 'Diddy' Combs is featured in the documentary.

The documentary includes footage featuring a range of celebrities and controversial high-profile people, including President Donald Trump, Lady Gaga, Drake, LeBron James, Chris Rock, Rihanna, Virgil Abloh, Justin Bieber, Elon Musk, Marilyn Manson and most notably, Sean 'Diddy' Combs.

West has remained a vocal supporter of Combs, attending his sex trafficking trial in June 2025 in New York to express his solidarity with his former musical collaborator.

West even reportedly dropped a song that included a recorded phone call with Combs from prison and vocals from West's daughter, North.

Combs was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He is currently facing up to 20 years in prison.

Kanye West's team is seen mocking Taylor Swift.

The documentary shows a different side of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards controversy that erupted after West stormed the stage when Taylor Swift beat Beyoncé.

In one bizarre moment, someone in West's entourage is seen mocking Taylor's response.

"Here I am, just an innocent, 19-year-old girl minding my own business at the VMAs," a woman says.

"Oh! Someone's interrupting me! Oh!"

Days after the VMAs, Swift told ABC News Radio that West had given her a "very sincere" apology on the phone. Though, the saga continued in the decade that followed.

Kanye West predicted his demise in a conversation with Pharrell Williams.

In 2018, Kanye and musician Pharrell Williams had a conversation that, in hindsight, included a pretty telling prediction from Ye about his future.

"If this was a scene in the f**king Bible, God's like, 'OK, I'm gonna not have your wife leave you, I'm gonna not have Adidas drop you, I'm gonna not have all your fans turn their back on you,'" West told Williams in the recording studio.

To this, Williams warned the 'Stronger' singer: "One f**ked up facet, just like a diamond, one f**ked up facet can f**k the whole thing up."

The aftermath of Kanye West's SNL stunt.

Another heated scene involved Saturday Night Live's Michael Che speaking to Ye over a stunt on the show.

On September 29, 2018, West made an appearance as the musical guest on the season premiere of SNL. During his final song, he was wearing a 'Make America Great Again' (MAGA) hat and delivered an impromptu speech to the studio audience as the credits rolled.

He claimed he was "bullied" backstage by the SNL cast and defended his support for then-President Donald Trump.

After the rant, SNL comedian Michael Che was filmed getting in Ye's face.

"Why would you do that to me? I work here. I work here and we treat everybody that comes in like family, and you're gonna sell us out?" Che told him. "That's f**ked up. We look up to you. We love you. What've you got against us?"

Meanwhile, SNL producer Lindsay Shookus, was shown attempting to get Ballesteros to stop recording them. "Can you not do that, please? Can you not record that? It would be awful for us."

But one moment that is captured is Chris Rock coming to Ye's dressing room to defend him. Rock even compares West's MAGA hat to Sinéad O'Connor's 1992 SNL appearance, when she tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II to protest sexual abuse in the Catholic Church.

"Nobody knows anything," Rock tells West, as he hugs him.

Charlie Kirk appeared in the documentary before his assassination.

In Whose Name? features a cameo from the late right-wing activist, Charlie Kirk.

West is seen with Kirk and conservative commentator Candace Owens in an intense strategy session.

"I have to show an example of a non-perfect Black celeb that still wins," West says in the meeting. "Because if you're a celebrity and you're Black and you're perfect, you're the housekeeper."

To this, Kirk agrees that West would be "the help."

On September 10 2025, Kirk was shot and killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Two days later, the suspected killer, Tyler Robinson, turned himself in to authorities and was subsequently charged with aggravated murder and several other felonies.

In Whose Name? is currently screening in theatres across the US, but the documentary is yet to receive an Australian release date.
