Bromance alert: the unlikely friendship between Kanye West and Donald Trump.

It’s the bromance the world did not need, and nobody wanted, but perhaps we should have seen coming: the bromance between Donald Trump and Kanye West.

Call them Trumye. Call them DonKan. Whatever their name, Trump and Kanye West are now a real couple whose relationship was made more official than ever on Twitter this morning.

It all started ten days ago, when Kanye began tweeting again, after almost a year’s absence from the platform. In true Kanye-style, he decided to basically go big or go home, because he’s used this time to show support for a couple of Donald Trump’s biggest supporters, Fox News personality Candace Owens, and cartoonist Scott Adams.

It’s important to remember that Kanye famously met with Trump in December 2016 at Trump Tower, when he was President-elect, which also attracted intense backlash from the musician’s fans at the time.

But perhaps his biggest crime right now was to criticise the highly popular former President, Barack Obama:

“Obama was in office for eight years and nothing in Chicago changed,” Kanye tweeted on Wednesday morning. For context, Obama publicly called Kanye a “jackass” in 2009 after his notorious interruption of Taylor Swift’s speech at the Video Music Awards.

And so, of course, the anti-Obama tweet meant that Kanye’s had to defend himself against fans who’ve questioned his support of the current, and very controversial, POTUS.

In a series of tweets posted Wednesday, Kanye’s said that, while he doesn’t “agree 100%” with Trump, “the mob can’t make me not love him.”

He passionately continued; “We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.”

Kanye also proudly displayed his Make America Great Again cap – which was even more special, because it’s signed:

But at that point, Kanye’s tweets diverged into an existential mindset:

I love when people have their own ideas. You don’t have to be allowed anymore. Just be.

Love who you want to love. That’s free thought. I’m not even political. I’m not a democrat or a republican

And, in a seemingly obscure reference to the 2017 film Get Out, Kanye included this in the thread:

And also I’m all the way out the sunken place. And I’m not scared anymore. I’m not scared of the media. I’m not scared of the past and I’m optimistic about the future. This tweet is in love not fear.

The internet being the internet, the backlash and mockery on Kanye’s account was swift – which in turn attracted the attention of his wife, Kim Kardashian, who instructed her husband to tweet once more:

my wife just called me and she wanted me to make this clear to everyone. I don’t agree with everything Trump does. I don’t agree 100% with anyone but myself.

But it was too late. Because Kanye has been hospitalized for mental health issues in the past, gossip outlets began to speculate that the obscure/deep tweets were the result of mental health issues. Kardashian finally spoke out on her own Twitter account, saying:

“Mental Health is no joke and the media needs to stop spitting that out so casually. Bottom line.”

She continued in a thread:

To the media trying to demonize my husband let me just say this… your commentary on Kanye being erratic & his tweets being disturbing is actually scary. So quick to label him as having mental health issues for just being himself when he has always been expressive is not fair

Yesterday it was announced that Kanye had parted ways with some business people and media outlets made this about Kanye’s mental health. Rather than just a simple business decision. So I’m glad he tweeted about the state of his company and all of the exciting things happening

Kardashian also validly argued everyone’s right to free thinking and free speech:

He’s a free thinker, is that not allowed in America? Because some of his ideas differ from yours you have to throw in the mental health card? That’s just not fair. He’s actually out of the sunken place when he’s being himself which is very expressive

Now when he spoke out about Trump… Most people (including myself) have very different feelings & opinions about this. But this is HIS opinion. I believe in people being able to have their own opinions,even if really different from mine

Naturally, the threads of both Kanye and Kardashian attracted Trump’s attention, and as we all know, the POTUS can’t resist a chance to tweet. He profoundly and eloquently typed out like the true leader of the free world that he is:

Finally, Trump used a curious hashtag in response to Kardashian’s tweet about mental health:

Given Trump’s background with women, we’re not sure he was referring to Kardashian, but we will give him the benefit of the doubt in this instance.

What we definitely know is that the bromance between the multi-award musician and the most controversial President ever is flourishing. Let’s just hope for entertainment’s sake that it doesn’t go the way of the Kardashian-West-Taylor Swift relationship too soon.
