So, what stories have you seen about Justin Bieber over the weekend?

How rude he is to his fans? Or maybe how he cancels on ice-hockey games in favour of a spin around Melbourne’s Port Phillip bay in a super yacht? Perhaps you’ve judged him a little for leaving Melbourne ahead of schedule?

What you don’t see, however, is what goes on behind closed doors.

Behind Bieber’s tour of Australia is a hard-working team who helps to make it all happen.

BOSS MGMT GRP is the Melbourne-based celebrity management, events and touring company that does the heavy lifting when it comes to keeping a superstar like Justin Bieber entertained. This involves a whole other world of secret plots and plans the general public has no idea about.

While we can’t identify anyone who works for BOSS by name, we can give away a few of their insights into what went down on the recent tour of Australia.

The boats

When organising social events like the super yacht cruise, everyone is kept under a veil of secrecy. The boat crew, management team, and on-board ‘guests’ all had to change boats at the last minute when the paparazzi were tipped off about their location.

“We are unable to tell anyone any details, you have to be that secretive,” say BOSS, amazed that the paps still managed to track them down. “These types of things can go sour very very quickly.”

The original boat, ‘Cloud Nine’, is a 98 foot super yacht that the company hosted Bieber’s supporting act, Martin Garrix, on Thursday afternoon. But after being chased down by photographers, the team were advised to take out MV Pearl instead.

“You always need a backup plan,” says BOSS.

‘That’ ice hockey game

According to the news coverage, Bieber snubbed an ice-hockey game with local team Melbourne Ice in favour for a yacht trip instead.

Contrary to what was reported in the media, Justin decided to take off to Brisbane rather than attending the hockey match on Sunday. From what BOSS staff were told, he simply changed his mind.

The paparazzi

BOSS says they can understand how incidents like the one with the young Melbourne fan happen.

20-year-old Sabah Helal was told by Justin Bieber that she made him ‘sick’ after relentlessly pursuing him through the city for a photograph.

“These guys are under constant pressure,” explains our contact.

“Their whole life is shrouded in secrecy. Imagine being constantly in the spotlight, always having to sneak around.”

So why don’t they just relax and head to a ‘normal’ venue to relax? Surely the photographers would give up if they weren’t made to chase the celebrities around town?

“They can’t just go to a bar like a normal person. As much as they would like to, they don’t lead a normal life,” says BOSS.

“These people are all just human like us, yet the pressures that they go through is immense.”

The celebrities

BOSS has looked after some of the world’s biggest names, and assure us Bieber’s antics pale in comparison to others. From Jay-Z to Usher, they’ve seen it all.

This week the company is hoping to fly Adele to the Yarra Valley for a day of fine food and wine, but won’t know until the day whether or not she will come.

“It’s never locked in until an hour or two hours prior,” BOSS explains.

“We’re the people throwing the party and we don’t even know.”

Justin as the ‘bad boy’

BOSS has hosted Justin two times before this trip, and says he’s not at all the hot-tempered bad boy he’s being portrayed as.

“I’ve seen a massive shift in him, his persona, what he’s about. He’s definitely more mature,” they say.

“For example, this time he bought along a friend from church, not the normal DJs he had on the last few tours.”

Despite Beieber telling his young fan, “You’re invading my privacy, I don’t want a photo,” the BOSS management team describe him as a “gentleman” who hugged and thanked the entire crew who looked after him in Melbourne.

Ah, a glimpse how the other half life. Glamourous, sure, but also stressful and highly organised – no last minute adventures without the world watching.
