Justin Baldoni met Emily over 10 years ago. His wedding vows began with an apology.

"I want to start off my vows to you with an apology."

These are the first words Justin Baldoni said to his bride Emily Baldoni as they stood in the aisle, ready to become husband and wife.

In response, she stood at the altar 11 years ago and promised to "stand firm" by Justin's side.

And that is exactly what she has been doing in the wake of the never-ending It Ends With Us controversy.

You see, Justin is currently being sued by his co-star Blake Lively for sexual harassment and a coordinated smear campaign.

In response, Baldoni has filed two different defamation lawsuits: one against the New York Times which first reported on Lively's claims, and the other against the actress herself.

But on the other side of the legal drama, Baldoni has a family life to maintain. The man is known as quite the 'wife guy'.

As Baldoni's legal team continues to leak potential evidence to the media, the couple has been vacationing in Hawaii with their family.

To this day, Emily has refrained from publicly commenting on the pending lawsuits.

Who is Emily Baldoni?

Emily Baldoni (née Foxler) is a Swedish-born actress, and the wife of Justin Baldoni. She moved to Los Angeles, California, in 2005. That same year, she appeared in her first acting job, a short called The Elephant's Room.

"I met Emily not long after she moved from Sweden and she had an accent and I thought, 'Soon as that accent goes away, she's going to be a leading lady in American movies,'" director James Ward Byrkit told Mandatory in 2013.

Emily went on to appear in How I Met Your Mother, Five Feet Apart, Coherence, and even made a cameo in her husband's film It Ends With Us as Doctor Julie.

How did Justin Baldoni and Emily Baldoni meet?

While it is unclear how exactly they met, Justin and Emily, both now in their 40s, had their first date in 2011 at the Blu Jam Café in Los Angeles.

Baldoni had an instant gut feeling that Emily was 'the one'.

"One of the things I learned from my mum was trusting my intuition, something I wish more men would tap into," the Jane the Virgin star told Makers in 2017.

"I had made the same mistake so many times, searching for something in a package that I thought I would want. When I met Emily, it was unlike all my other experiences.

"She had, like, a depth and a grace and this quiet strength that I think I always dreamed of and I just knew."

Two years later, in 2013, the pair went public with the relationship when Baldoni proposed in the exact same location.

A 27-minute-long video of the proposal went viral, amassing 14 million views on YouTube.

"On April 13th I proposed to my girlfriend Emily at the restaurant where we had our first date," Justin wrote.

"I told her I was running late, had the restaurant opened just for her, and set up hidden cameras all around her.

"When she sat down at the table, there was a TV in front of her set to take her on a journey that would lead to the proposal of a lifetime."

What a super normal way to describe your own proposal. Lol.

In the video, Justin lip-syncs to multiple songs — with the help of his friends — before doing a flash mob to Bruno Mars' hit song Marry You.

It's a lot!!

He then gets down on one knee in the café, with loved ones watching on, and asks Emily to marry him.

"Such a stupid question," she laughs. "Yes."

When did Justin Baldoni and Emily Baldoni get married?

Three months after their engagement, Justin and Emily wed in Corona, California.

Like their proposal video, Justin and Emily shared their wedding trailer on YouTube.

In the footage, they exchange vows.

"I want to start off my vows to you with an apology," Justin curiosly said.

"I'm sorry for all my faults, my shortcomings, for my insecurities and my ego and for everything that I've ever done or said that's hurt you. And everything I've ever brought to this relationship that hasn't been pure.

"But with that apology also comes a promise," Justin added, "Emily, for the rest of my life, I will cherish you, I will appreciate you, I will listen to you, I will laugh with you, I will take care of you, I will honour you and I will respect you."

For her own vows, Emily told Justin that she loved him "truly, madly, deeply".

"I will stand strong by your side," she continued. "Grateful to have a man that will go above and beyond to comfort a friend or simply make someone feel loved.

"I will stand firm by your side, deeply appreciative to have a man who inspires me and the people around him to live life more fully."

Emily added that she felt "blessed" to have a man who speaks for those who don't have the strength to speak for themselves.

"And a man who will go without sleep to make sure somebody's story is shared with the world, because where there is love, nothing is too much trouble and there is always time."

Does Justin Baldoni have kids?

Justin Baldoni shares two children with his wife, Emily Baldoni.

The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Maiya Grace, in June 2015.

Two years later, in October 2017, Justin and Emily welcomed a son named Maxwell.

In 2021, the It Ends With Us actor spoke to The Bump about fatherhood, saying his goal is "to raise good humans".

"The only way I think we can do that is if we actively teach them the things the world is going to tell them they can't be. And then they get to decide what qualities they want to have," he said.

"The world is going to tell my daughter to fit in the box," he explained. "It's going to tell her what a girl and a woman should be — the world's going to train her to be polite and be pretty and be thoughtful, and to be quiet when someone's speaking and to care about how she looks.

"And the world's going to tell my son that he has to be impenetrable, that he's got to be fearless and take physical risks.

"It's going to tell him that it's not okay for him to cry when he's hurt and that he should keep his joy inside. The world is going to tell him that women are less and that he's stronger."

To combat this, the actor said he is trying to "instill the opposing virtues" in his children.

"It's an experiment in real time, and who knows if it will work," he said.
