Actor Justin Baldoni nails this simple parenting trick for dealing with tantrums.

US actor Justin Baldoni doesn’t care if his toddler has a meltdown in a fancy supermarket.

The star of Netflix series Jane The Virgin suggests even adults should try chucking a tantrum when we are feeling strongly about something.

He shared a photo of his daughter, Maiya (who turns two this week) in full tantrum mode in Whole Foods.

“It’s now one of my favourite photos ever of me and my dad,” Baldoni said on Instagram.

The actor said his father taught him how to be comfortable in the uncomfortable.

“There are no perfect parents, but one thing my dad taught me is to not parent based on what anyone else thinks,” he said.

“My dad always let me feel what I needed to feel, even if it was in public and embarrassing. I don’t remember him ever saying ‘You’re embarrassing me!’ or ‘Don’t cry!’

“It wasn’t until recently that I realised how paramount that was for my own emotional development,” he added.

The 33-year-old dad, who is expecting his second child with wife Emily, says children don’t know what to do with new feelings.

“I try to remember to make sure my daughter knows it’s OK that she feels deeply,” he said.

“It’s not embarrassing to me when she throws tantrums in the grocery store, or screams on a plane. I’m her dad… not yours.

“Let’s not be embarrassed for our children. It doesn’t reflect on you. In fact.. we should probably be a little more kind and patient with ourselves too,” said Baldoni.

He goes so far as to say adults should throw tantrums and cry when they feel the need. Noted!
