Skip your pricey scalp treatment. Here's the 3-step routine you can do at home under $60.

Few things in life feel as pampering as a scalp treatment — the relaxing sensation during it and the uber-clean sensation afterwards is pure bliss.

The only downside? Having to doll out extra coin for the service. It's so wonderful as a treat, but for more regular scalp maintenance, being able to DIY makes things a bit more achievable.

So how does one mimic a scalp treatment in the confines of their own bathroom you ask?

Enter the JUSTICE Haircare Marine Beauty range. For just $60, you get a shampoo, conditioner and scalp scrub, ready to pamper you on the regular.

This Australian-made, ocean-inspired range gets its name from the 96 per cent natural ingredients it's packed with, including vegan marine collagen and blue spirulina. (Aquamarine's beachy waves would love. IYKYK.)

Designed to exfoliate, detoxify and rebalance the scalp, this collection removes build-up and promotes stronger, healthier hair. As someone who puts their hair through quite a bit (bleach, heat, slick-back buns), this sounds right up my alley.

And fun fact: the bottles and tubes are made from 30 per cent ocean waste plastic. You can track the impact of the ocean waste on their website.

The range is supposed to help improve scalp health, support healthy hair growth and leave locks soft, shiny and balanced. So, I put it to the test for a week to see how my hair fared.

Let's get this scalp in tip-top shape!

Scrub

I love a scalp scrub. I've tried so many over the years as they've risen to popularity, so I now have a bit of a checklist when I'm looking for a newbie.

I know I like the exfoliator to feel like it's doing the job without damaging my scalp, and I need the scrub to rinse out easily (I really hate when I can still feel gritty bits in my hair after rinsing!).

Also, I strongly prefer a tube over a tub — when I'm mid-shower, all soapy and wet, trying to twist the lid and scoop out a handful of scrub can really send me down a spiral, fast.

So, you can imagine my joy when unboxing the scalp scrub to find a sleek, ready-to-squeeze tube. Hallelujah! Each of the products in the pack is also numbered, so even my sleepy morning brain can work out which product is which.

JUSTICE Haircare recommends applying a palm-sized amount of the scrub to an already wet scalp, gently massaging in circular motions for up to five minutes, focusing on areas with dryness. So, I did just that!

I jumped in the shower, all sweaty post-pilates, and went in for a sweet, sweet massage and scrub of my scalp, buffing away all the build-up. When it was time to rinse, I did a little happy dance when I realised another checkbox was ticked — there was no scrubby residue post-rinse. My scalp felt super fresh but not stripped down. Winning!

Shampoo

Next up: shampoo. For me, a good shampoo needs to be gentle but still effective. I want a good lather and a clean scalp, but I do not want overdried hair that feels lacklustre and brittle.

The texture of this shampoo really surprised me. It's thick and almost creamy. I was so convinced it wasn't going to lather — boy, oh boy, was I wrong! It lathered up beautifully, giving my hair a very luxe-feeling wash. I gave it a good massage into my scalp (got to get that at-home salon feeling!) before rinsing. My hair felt squeaky-clean but not all crispy and dried out.

Also, at this point, my shower smells like a beach holiday in the best way. These products have such a lovely, subtle ocean smell — I found it super calming. A great way to start the day!

Conditioner

Onto the final step of my at-home scalp and hair pamper — conditioner. I've said it before and I'll say it again: as a fine-haired girlie, conditioners have strict principles. They must nourish and protect my fine strands, but not weigh them down. Trust me, this is easier said than done.

This conditioner is infused with vitamin E for an added boost of hydration and protection. I lathered it from the mid-lengths to the tips of my hair (with a tiny bit near the roots), left it for a few minutes to let the product sink in and work its magic, then rinsed out. My hair definitely didn't feel weighed down — thank goodness. In fact, it felt quite light!

The verdict

Over the week, I used the scalp scrub twice and the shampoo and conditioner three times, each feeling like a mini treatment at home.

I've got to say: this girl's hair and scalp have been pretty darn happy this week. My scalp felt super fresh, and as a result, I reckon my hair had a bit more pep and volume than usual (again, as a fine-haired girlie, volume isn't a given for me).

My bleach-blonde hair could have gone with a little extra hydration (I regularly add a hair mask into my weekly regimen), but all in all, I found the range a great way to pamper my scalp from the comfort of home.
