Where are they now? The cast of the cult movie, John Tucker Must Die, almost 14 years on.

The year was 2006.

You were sitting in the living room with an overnight DVD from Blockbuster.

Your mum let you rent John Tucker Must Die even though you were too young for it, and she immediately regretted it when she witnessed Jesse Metcalfe playing basketball in a silk g-string from the corner of her eye.

Life was good.

After using your pocket money to buy yourself your very own copy on Blu-Ray, you watched it bi-annually with your gal pals for a decade.

But 14 years on, what has become of the iconic cast of John Tucker Must Die?

Growing up playing basketball in Connecticut, Jesse Metcalfe was born to play John Tucker. Also well known for his role as the hot gardener in Desperate Housewives and Miguel in Passions, Jesse Metcalfe continued to star in a string of Hallmark films and television shows, including A Country Wedding, Fairfield Road and Christmas Next Door.

In addition to made for TV movies, he starred in the 2008 horror film Insanitarium, the NBC crime series Chase, and the television drama Dallas.

He’s currently playing the role of Trace Riley in Hallmark’s series Chesapeake. 

In 2007, the year after John Tucker Must Die, the NYU educated actor entered a drug rehabilitation facility to treat his alcoholism.

But when it comes to his love life, it would seem as if Metcalfe has officially gone ‘full John Tucker’.

Recently it was reported by E! News that the 41-year-old is no longer engaged to The Santa Clarita Diet’s Cara Santana due to cheating allegations. Despite their two-year-engagement and 13-year-plus relationship, the actor was spotted holding hands and hugging two different women in the space of a weekend. Photos published by the Daily Mail reportedly identified the women as Australian actress Jade Albany and Hungarian model Livia Pillman.

It looks as if Santana’s best friend, Olivia Culpo, has also commented on the state of their relationship. The model shared a scene from Home Alone in which Macaulay Culkin holding a rifle, with the caption, “When someone upsets my best friend” and even tagged Santana in her Instagram story.

Previous to his relationship with Santana, Metcalfe dated British girl band Girls Aloud’s Nadine Coyle from 2005 to 2008.

Other than that, he spends his time on Twitter asking for “summer body” tips, and there’s even a website where you can buy a personalised video message from him for around $100.

Brittany Snow has had a very busy career since playing Kate in John Tucker Must Die.

In 2007, the year after John Tucker Must Die, the 33-year-old starred as Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray,  a role that catapulted her into the living rooms of every musical theatre fan in the western world.

One year on, she had us shaking in our boots as Donna in the cult horror Prom Night, and then she became a household name on the back of her role as choir captain Chloe Beale in the Pitch Perfect trilogy. Most recently, her name will also be familiar to anyone who watched the Netflix original Someone Great.

But under the surface, Snow was struggling with anorexia, depression and self-mutilation.

In 2012, after seeking help from her family, friends, and medical professionals throughout her twenties, Snow co-founded the Love is Louder movement to help students who are suffering from bullying, negative self-talk, discrimination, isolation and depression. She also regularly donates to animal shelters and has a rescue dog named Billie Jean. He even has his own Instagram (@billieonthestreet) with 2,815 followers.

She’s currently engaged to a luxury home realtor in Orange County named Tyler Stanaland.

After playing goodie-two-shoes Carrie in John Tucker Must Die during the Canadian summer in 2005, there was no stopping for Arielle Kebble.

The model-come-actress was swiftly signed on as Cecilia Banks, the villain of teen favourite Aquamarine. She also starred in The Grudge 2. 

She continued to film Forever Strong, once more alongside Penn Badgley, which due to pushbacks went straight to DVD.

She also had recurring roles in 90210, Hawaii Five-O and Un-REAL.

The 34-year-old has kept her personal life famously private, and her public profile is highly career-focused.

In 2006, she was known to date director Braham Turner, and in 2010 rumours swirled that she was dating actor Kevin Connolly.

Oh, and she also featured in four Hallmark movies.

Within two years, Ashanti went from badass head cheerleader Heather, back to an international pop sensation.

For the 39-year-old, John Tucker Must Die was a part of a two year flirt with acting, before a swift return to the music industry.

In 2008, the singer-songwriter released her fourth album The Declaration, which sold 86,000 units in its first week.

In 2011, Ashanti launched her own music label, Written Entertainment, and in 2014 she released her sixth album Braveheart.

In addition to her wildly successful career, Ashanti is well-known for her nine-year relationship with Nelly, which ended in December 2012. There have since been rumours that she was in a relationship with Khloe Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend James Harden.

She has now released seven albums and has done acting too.  She played LaTasha Montclair in ABC’s Army Wives and also guest-starred as herself on CW’s hit-show, Dynasty in 2019.

Most famous for her role as Brooke Davis in One Tree Hill from 2003 to 2012, Sophia Bush, 37, has appeared in a plethora of movies and television shows since 2006.

In 2011, she starred as Chloe in Chalet Girl, and was even the voice of Voyd in The Incredibles 2. 

Three years on, she began starring in the NBC police drama series Chicago P.D.

But she is also very well-known for her very short marriage with ~heart-throb~ Chad Michael-Murray.

Five months into the marriage, the couple separated in September 2005, just after John Tucker Must Die filming finished.

Three years later, she began dating another co-star from One Tree Hill, James Lafferty, and later dated Austin Nichols, who took on a role on the show so the pair could be together, but they eventually broke up.

In 2013, Bush began dating Google program manager Dan Fredinburg. One year after they broke up because of distance, he was killed in the 2015 Nepal earthquake, leaving the actress devastated.

In addition to her tumultuous romantic life, Bush has been a huge advocate for various fundraisers such as F*ck Cancer, Run For the Gulf, and Global Green Gulf Relief.

Since her screen appearance as Lori, Kate's mum in John Tucker Must Die, Jenny McCarthy continued to star in many notable films.

In 2006, she starred in Santa Baby, and in 2008 she starred in Witness Protection. She is currently also a judge on the US version of The Masked Singer. However, it isn't her career that has kept her in the spotlight, but rather her political views.

The 47-year-old is... an anti-vaxxer.

In 2007, McCarthy announced her son Evan, who she had with John Mallory Asher in 2002, had autism.

The next year in 2008, she appeared on a Larry King Live special dedicated to anti-vaccination and argued that vaccines can trigger autism. This is just one of her public statements on the matter.

She has written nine books, two problematically explore her "journey" to "cure" her son's autism.

After splitting with Asher in 2005, the actress began dating Jim Carrey, and the pair were together for five years.

She is now married to musician and producer Donnie Wahlberg.

Penn Badgley, 33, is recognisable around the globe.

One year after starring in John Tucker Must Die, he was thrust into the public imagination as lonely boy Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl, and he has since appeared in a string of high-profile films and television series.

Alongside Gossip Girl, Badgley took on the roles of Todd in Easy A, and portrayed Jeff Buckley in Greetings from Tim Buckley.

In 2017, Badgley married Domino Kirke, sister of Girls star Jemima Kirke (who plays Jessa on the show).

Although the beginning of the couple’s relationship was kept relatively quiet, it’s believed the pair started dating back in 2014, three years before they wed.

In 2018, Badgley starred as stalker Joe Goldberg in the hugely popular You on Netflix and the show is currently in its second season. After young women fangirled over the character, the 32-year-old reminded his fans that the character "is a murderer" and should not be glorified.

The cast of John Tucker Must Die has gone in a million different directions, but nobody will ever play basketball without considering a silk g-string again.
