But in 2020, the Grease actor's world turned upside down when his wife of almost 30 years died.

Travolta's life has been marked by loss, as years earlier, his first son tragically passed away at the age of 16.

In the years since Kelly Preston's passing, the actor has largely shunned the limelight for quiet family life.

In a rare glimpse of his life now, Travolta kicked off 2025 with his children, sharing a winter family photo on Instagram that showed him, his daughter Ella and son Benjamin celebrating the holidays together.

Since retiring from acting, John maintains an active presence in his children's lives, supporting Ella's music career and Benjamin's athletic pursuits.

Here's everything we know about John Travolta's family and his life after the death of his wife, Kelly Preston.

John Travolta and Kelly Preston shared nearly three decades of marriage after meeting on the set of The Experts in 1987.

The couple were married in 1991.

Jett Travolta was born in April 1992 and tragically passed away at age 16 in January 2009 after suffering a seizure during a family vacation in the Bahamas.

Ella Bleu Travolta was born on April 3, 2000, in Los Angeles, California. Kelly Preston and John Travolta welcomed her at their home in California, with both parents helping to deliver her together.

Benjamin Travolta was born on November 23, 2010, in Florida. His birth came as a wonderful surprise to the family, as they had been trying to conceive following the loss of their first son, Jett.

John and Kelly remained together until Preston's tragic death in July 2020 at age 57, following a private two-year battle with breast cancer.

"It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer," Travolta announced on Instagram.

"She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many."

John Travolta's life now as a single father.

Since Preston's passing, Travolta has focused on parenting their two children while processing his grief.

In a 2021 interview with Esquire Mexico, he opened up about the grief he had experienced since losing his wife.

"Grief is personal and finding your own path is what could lead to healing. It's different than someone else's journey," he said.

"The most important thing you can do to help people going through grief is allow them the space to live it and not complicate their journey with your own. You have no idea how many people have come up to me… and afterward I've felt saturated with everyone else's pain that I didn't know what to do," Travolta continued.

"The first thing you should do while going through grief is go somewhere where you can truly mourn, with no interruptions."

After initially taking a rumoured vow of celibacy and refusing to date again, Travolta has gradually begun to embrace life again.

Ella Bleu, now 24, has followed in her parents' creative footsteps, pursuing careers in both acting and music. In 2023, she released her debut EP Colors of Love and the touching single 'Little Bird' paid tribute to her late mother.

Ella and her father have a tight bond.

"I say he's my biggest fan, and I'm his biggest fan," Ella told Parade.com.

"There's a lot of support going on, which is — it's amazing. I learned so much from him."

The two have collaborated on commercials for the Super Bowl and PlayStation.

"I always jump at the opportunity to do something with my dad and we always have the most fun doing something together," Ella told PEOPLE.

Benjamin, now 14, has been developing his athletic abilities through Ninja Warrior training, and recently impressed his father with his skiing prowess.

Travolta proudly shares his son's achievements on social media. The family continues to honour the memory of Jett, their eldest son who passed away.

Now 70 years old, Travolta has been embracing a renewed zest for life. He's been travelling with his children, including a special father-daughter trip to Paris with Ella to attend the 2024 Olympics.

Along with jetsetting around the world, the actor continues his passion for aviation by piloting his own planes.

While his acting days are behind him, Travolta did attend a special screening celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pulp Fiction last year.

Travolta told Esquire that the kind of legacy he leaves is out of his hands.

"The legacy is created by all the people who have loved and helped me over the years," he said.

"I leave it to them to form whatever memory they wish to have about me."
