Olivia Munn has opened up about the early days of her relationship with her now-husband, John Mulaney.
The couple spoke about how their marriage with two kids evolved in a feature with GQ for the outlet's 2024 Men of the Year issue.
Munn shared that she "barely knew" Mulaney when she first fell pregnant with their son, Malcolm, in 2021. "It wasn't anything close to 'dating,'" she admitted. "I barely knew him."
When the actress told Mulaney about the pregnancy, they initially planned to be platonic co-parents. "It wasn't necessarily, 'We're going to be married and live together' or any of that, but it was, 'I will be involved in some way.'"
Back then, they were living on opposite sides of the US, with Munn in Los Angeles and Mulaney in New York. The two would occasionally speak, and the comedian would visit throughout her pregnancy.
At the time, Mulaney was just out of rehab. He had relapsed in 2020 after years of struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.
Munn admitted that their incoming baby was "the only thing that made him seem light and happy," she said.
"I remember he was really excited to tell his parents. I was watching someone newly sober, at the edge of a cliff, and I didn't know him well enough to help him," she continued.
"In my head, I'm thinking, 'I don't know really what's happening with this guy. It feels pretty shaky.'"
Two months later, the pair decided to raise their son as a couple, and Munn has since become involved in Mulaney's recovery. The couple even agreed for Munn to administer random drug tests, which they've continued to this day.
