In June, Joe Alwyn was 'navigating' his split from Taylor Swift. Now he's moved on.

After six and a half years together, Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift's breakup shocked Swifties worldwide. At the time, the couple said very little about the conditions that led to the breakdown of their relationship. The fiercely private couple remained so, even once parting ways.

But now, Alwyn is finally opening up.

In a new interview with The Guardian, the actor says he has moved on from the high-profile relationship — and he wants everyone else to do the same.

When the outlet suggested he must want to move on with his life, The Brutalist star put it plain and simple: he already has.

"That's something for other people to do," he told The Guardian.

"We're talking about something that's a while ago now in my life. So that's for other people. That's what I feel."

The 33-year-old's life has changed drastically since his debut role in 2016's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk. Off-screen, he relished his quiet and private personal life.

But shortly after starring in the film, he began his relationship with Swift. While unconfirmed, the pair likely met at the 2016 Met Gala, where Swift was a co-chair.

The couple kept their relationship under wraps for eight months before it was finally leaked to the press in May 2017. This was confirmed when Swift released a selection of diary entries with her 2019 album Lover.

Details of their relationship were largely kept under lock and key.

Despite Swift's stardom status, they never walked a red carpet and rarely made "official" public outings together. Many fans speculate her megastar status and Alwyn's desire for privacy were key issues in their relationship.

Asked if Alwyn feared his relationship with the megastar would overshadow his career, the actor said he focused on controlling what he could control.

"Right from the beginning, [I] tried to focus on the things that are meaningful for me: friends, family, work, of course," he told The Guardian.

"So noise outside of that… I think I've done what lots of people who find themselves in the public eye do, which is just try and ignore it."

When the couple's split was announced last year, the internet went wild. And while Swift has publicly moved on with new beau, NFL star Travis Kelce, Alwyn seems yet to escape questions and comments about his time with the pop icon.

After it was suggested the "noise" of it all must get exhausting, the actor said he leaned on his support circle.

"I have great family and friends and real things in my life; those are the things that kept me tethered to the ground," he told The Guardian.

"So I don't know how else to say it, [the noise is]… just in a different room."

Entertainment Tonight broke the news of Swift and Alwyn's split in April 2023, saying the breakup was amicable and "the relationship had just run its course".

Alwyn first addressed his split from the Grammy winner in June 2024, telling The Sunday Times the public breakup of a "long, loving, fully committed relationship" was difficult to navigate.

"What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it's suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in," he told the outlet.

"So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition.

"And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that."

Heading into the new year, the actor said he was feeling optimistic about what was to come.

"I feel great. I feel lucky to be in a good place," he said.
