Jessica Mauboy is one of Australia's biggest stars.

She has stolen our hearts with her powerhouse vocals and infectious energy, but there's one part of her life that's just as special — her relationship with her husband, Themeli Magripilis.

Who is Jessica Mauboy's husband, Themeli Magripilis?

Themeli Magripilis, Jessica Mauboy's husband, is a former professional footballer.

He played for various clubs in the Northern Territory, but has largely kept a low profile in the public eye compared to his famous wife. He has since retired from football.

How did Jessica Mauboy meet her husband: inside their love story.

Like all the great love stories, Mauboy's meet-cute with her husband began in a club when she was 18-years old. And her serendipitous meeting with now-husband Magripilis was actually all thanks to a dare.

"I was dared to walk across the room in the club and pinch this guy. At the time, I didn't know who he was, but my friends knew of him and thought he was a very handsome man.

"It was a dare to start off with … to go through the crowd and pinch his bottom," Mauboy told Show + Tell in 2015.

For Mauboy, Magripilis wasn't her usual type, but she saw him a few times in Darwin and realised that maybe they could be more than friends.

And while the adorable couple has us in our feels, Mauboy has been extremely candid about the challenges they have faced over the years.

When speaking about her album in February, Mauboy opened up about a particularly painful chapter in her relationship when her and her husband were trying to navigate long-distance.

"That song is about when we almost broke up. We were eight years in a long-distance relationship ,and we felt really apart. We weren't doing things together, we weren't creating a future," she told Daily Telegraph.

But despite the speed bumps, the two lovers seemed to find their way back, and are now happier than ever.

"But we would never say goodbye. We couldn't. We still always say see you later," she continued. "Finally, we worked out how to salvage our relationship and made the move together and eight more years later, we're living this beautiful life together in Sydney."

Is Jessica Mauboy married?

Mauboy and Magripilis got engaged in October 2019, sharing a photo on Instagram to announce the happy news.

"The love of my life proposed to me in his family's hometown of Kalymnos, Greece, on the beach at sunset. We are so happy I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. Thank you for all the love BIG LOVE JM & Themeli," Mauboy wrote.

Mauboy and Magripilis tied the knot in July 2022 in Darwin, a city that holds a special place in Mauboy's heart.

"I always envisioned getting married in Darwin," Mauboy told WHO.

Given the couple are notoriously private, it came as no surprise that Mauboy was quite tight-lipped when it came to the details of her wedding. However, we do know that the happy couple got married in a quaint church ceremony in the top end.

They then held a reception at the Mindil Beach Casino, where 300 guests were in attendance. The couple never officially shared any wedding photos from their unforgettable day.

A Covid cancellation.

Getting engaged at the end of 2019 meant that Mauboy and Magripilis had to deal with Covid pandemic restrictions.

The pair had intended to marry sooner, but were forced to delay their nuptials due to the pandemic.

The two and a half year wait to finally tie the knot was surely worth it for the happy couple.

The special story behind Jess Mauboy's engagement ring.

Jessica Mauboy's engagement ring is by Nadia Neuman from Mondial Jewellers.

She told Woman's Day that it is a 1.5 carat oval diamond surrounded by smaller marquise diamonds, and a diamond-encrusted band.

Neuman said this design gave the ring "dimension and movement".

Set in premium white gold, it features a butterfly motif in rose gold under the stone.

"So, because we knew butterflies meant a lot to Jess, we wanted to incorporate them into her custom design."

Does Jessica Mauboy have children? 

The Daily Telegraph reports that Mauboy and her husband are allegedly expecting their first child together in early 2025. However, neither Mauboy or her husband have publicly confirmed this yet.

In the past, Mauboy has been open about wanting to start a family, but at the right time.

"My sisters always say, 'When are we going to have a little Mauboy or little Magripilis running around?' and Them's parents are getting much older and they're like, 'When are you going to have a baby? I want to have a little grandson or granddaughter.' They're freaking me out!" she said to WHO in 2019.
