Jessica Mauboy just shared the details of her 'rollercoaster' life as a new mum.

Australian singer Jessica Mauboy is a mum — and has been for months.

The star and her husband, Themeli "Them" Magripilis, welcomed the baby girl on January 13, confirming the news to Stellar.

"It has been a bit of a roller-coaster but a magical one," Jess told the publication.

"I look at her and it's 'whoa!' because I see myself, that little frown. She's constantly changing every day, another little roll, another crease."

She also shared her new addition's name, and we might be biased but we lowkey love it: Mia!

While she sees herself physically in Mia, the 35-year-old confessed she is hesitant for her daughter to inherit her personality as "it's rough and tough".

Though Mia joined the world two months ago, Jess said she chose to keep the baby news off social media for a couples of reasons.

She didn't want to disappoint loved ones who wanted to see Mia before she had her first vaccinations, but the singer also wanted to protect herself from trolls.

"The scary stuff that comes with being in the spotlight, I had to understand that was going to come," she said.

"I wanted to hold space for myself, to be patient and give as much love and kindness to myself as [I could while] my body was changing.

"Like making a record, you have got to put yourself out there eventually, but it was about having these precious moments with her seen by myself [rather than everyone else]."

Jess didn't speak much about her pregnancy, outside of confirming the news in late September 2024.

"To my family, this is like a surprise and also they've been waiting," she said while onstage at a show in Melbourne.

"But I'm like, 'when I'm ready when it happens and it will be a blessing' and it really does feel like that."

Jess and Them met 17 years ago in a Darwin nightclub, right after she had finished performing with her former girl group, the Young Divas.

"[My friends and I] had a girls' night," Jess told Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley during an episode of their Life Uncut podcast in May 2022.

"[My friend] points to this person in the crowd and goes, 'I want you to crab claw him on the butt, like his cheek,'" she told the former Bachelor girls.

"Which you can't do anymore," Laura acknowledged.

At the time, however, it worked. And after that night, the pair would see each other on and off around Darwin before Jess eventually asked a friend for his number.

"I texted and said 'I'd really like this to work, how about you?' and I didn't think I would do anything in my life like that."

What followed was a long-distance relationship, with Them in the NT and Jess in Sydney. And it came with a price.

"We were eight years in a long-distance relationship, and we felt really apart, we weren't doing things together, we weren't creating a future," she shared with The Daily Telegraph in February 2024.

"Finally, we worked out how to salvage our relationship and made the move together, and eight more years later, we're living this beautiful life together in Sydney."

But their relationship was cemented during a trip to Them's hometown in Greece.

"I would get all mushy when he would be talking to the yiayias or papus on the street asking for directions or what to see on the island, and I would think 'I love you, malaka,'" the singer told news.com.au in 2016.

"Out of all the moments we have had together, it was a realisation that, yes, I am going to be with him for the rest of my life, whether or not I have the ring.

"I know deeply how amazing he is, how he is with my family, and they are with him. And he's so hot."

Them proposed to Jess in 2019 on the island of Kalymnos, at sunset, where his extended family live.

"We are so happy, I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend," Jess wrote on Instagram at the time.

After delays due to the COVID pandemic, the couple was eventually able to tie the knot in July 2022, in an intimate ceremony in Darwin — a destination that holds a special place in Jess' heart.

"I always knew I wanted to have the wedding in Darwin," the singer told WHO in May 2022.

While she is over the moon to have married the love of her life, Jess hasn't let being a wife "define" her.

"My vision now is that I'm a strong woman," she told The Daily Telegraph in August 2023.

"I may be married, but that doesn't tie me down to married life. It doesn't define me."
