Lights, cameras, gondolas: What happened when the stars descended on Venice.

In case you somehow missed the giant three-day circus, one of the world's richest men, Jeff Bezos, just got married in a Venetian wedding so big, locals literally took to the canals to protest it.

Lauren Sánchez, Emmy-winning journalist, helicopter pilot, and participant of that all-female space flight, officially tied the knot with Bezos, (also simultaenosly making her Instagram name change official), while wearing a 30-carat pink diamond ring that could fund a small hospital.

Estimates place its value around $3 and $5 million USD ($4 to 7 million AUD).

The event has been described as the "wedding of the year", and celebrities, politicians and more have flocked to Italy to celebrate the nuptials.

The guest list was basically the Met Gala, with fewer weird outfits and a lot more boats.

So, exactly which celebrities attended Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's wedding, and what went down at the wedding of the year?

Here's who was spotted at the ceremony.

Who attended the Bezos wedding?

The guest list was a mix of A-listers, athletes, and people you've definitely panic-bought skincare from at 2am.

Leonardo DiCaprio and his long-time girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti, made the cut, along with Sydney Sweeney, Tom Brady, and Usher, who presumably didn't even have to be asked twice to perform Yeah! on the dance floor.

Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King were also there, the latter of whom joined the bride on the Blue Origin space flight in April this year. Blue Origin is the rocket company owned by Bezos; because why stop at fast shipping when you can also send your fiancée's friends to space?

Katy Perry, who was also on the space mission, skipped the wedding as she is currently in Australia for her Lifetimes world tour. Her ex-partner Orlando Bloom, however, did make an appearance at the nuptials.

Although she missed the Euro Summer event of the season, it's worth noting that Katy did attend the bride's Bachelorette trip to Paris earlier in the year along with Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian. Lauren took a break from all the wedding chaoes and wrote on her friend's Instagram overnight; "We miss you Katy." Cute.

All of the Kardashian-Jenners, bar Kourtney, were spotted at the Bezos wedding.

Kim and Khloe were among some of the first to leave the reception, and wound their way back to their accomodation along the canals.

Model Karlie Kloss showed up with her sister-in-law Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner.

Other guests of note included Queen Rania of Jordan, Bill Gates and his girlfriend, Paula Hurd, François-Henri Pinault, and fashion designers Diane von Fürstenberg, Domenico Dolce and Tommy Hilfiger.

What we know about the wedding itself.

The nuptials, teased by Lauren's brother as "like a Princess Di thing," were, indeed, a spectacle. Celebrations came with a price tag of around $US50 million, or $76 million AUD.

A source told PEOPLE, the guests ate pizza cooked by a famous Neapolitan chef onsite (doesn't get fresher than that), along with fried zucchini flowers, arancini, octopus and cod. Dessert included pastries and lemon cakes.

Things kicked off on Thursday evening in Madonna dell'Orto, a medieval church in the central district of Cannaregio. The ceremony itself was held on the tiny island of San Giorgio, where Matteo Bocelli (son of Andrea Bocelli) serenaded the couple as they exchanged rings in front of 200-250 guests.

Lauren wore a Dolce & Gabbana high-neck wedding dress that reportedly took 900 hours to make, inspired by Sophia Loren's gown in the film Houseboat. Jeff arrived in a tux, because apparently, even billionaires can't escape the eternal rule: when women bring the glam, men fall back on a simple black suit.

Speaking to Vogue ahead of the wedding, Lauren said that she and Jeff wouldn't follow many traditions on the special day. But they did decide to have "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue."

Lauren's "something borrowed" was a pair of Dolce & Gabbana earrings, while her "something blue" was a secret souvenir from her Blue Origin flight, though she didn't specify what it is.

"It was literally one of the most profound experiences I've ever had in my life," Lauren said. "Seeing Earth from space, I came down and I couldn't describe it. It was the greatest experience I've ever had. Jeff said, 'It's gonna change you more than you think,' and it completely has, visually, spiritually."

The partying will continue until Saturday (Sunday our time) with guests to meet in a former medieval shipyard. Lady Gaga and Elton John are reportedly set to perform.

But while the festivities have drawn international attention, Venice locals are… let's say, less excited about the event.

Protestors took to the streets and canals with inflatable boats, chanting "no grandi matrimoni" ("no big weddings") and waving "No Space for Bezos" banners, pointing out that the city, which has fewer than 250,000 residents, is already overwhelmed by over-tourism, housing shortages, and a dwindling population.

After the backlash, in true billionaire fashion, Bezos reportedly switched venues to a more isolated part of the city, presumably somewhere you can't reach by protest kayak.

But while the locals might be relieved the mega-yachts are finally leaving their canals, it's hard to ignore the spectacle of a billionaire wedding.

It's a reminder that while most of us are at home debating whether to get Uber Eats, there's a corner of the world where you can spend $76 million on a wedding, sail through Venice in a boat that probably costs more than your apartment block, and have your big day overshadowed only by the possibility of Elton John performing Tiny Dancer in the corner.
