The new era of Jane Austen adaptations is upon us.

Calling all Jane Austen fans: we've got the best news this side of a perfectly timed proposal in the rain.

We're officially entering what can only be described as the next great golden age of Austen adaptations, and frankly, it's about bloody time.

After years of making do with re-watching the 2005 Pride and Prejudice for the hundredth time (no judgement—I'm literally talking about myself), Hollywood has finally remembered that Jane Austen's romantic masterpieces are basically guaranteed box office gold. So… what's in store for us Austen devotees?

Daisy Edgar-Jones in Sense and Sensibility.

The latest delicious morsel of news? Daisy Edgar-Jones is set to lead a brand-new big-screen adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, playing the sensible eldest Dashwood sister, Elinor.

The Normal People and Twisters star will be directed by Georgia Oakley in what promises to be a sumptuous period piece that'll have us all swooning into our cinema seats.

This isn't just any old adaptation either — it's coming from the dream team at Working Title Films and Focus Features, the same powerhouse duo behind the swoon-worthy 2005 Pride and Prejudice and the visually stunning 2020 Emma. So get excited.

With a script by bestselling Australian author Diana Reid, this Sense and Sensibility is shaping up to be the kind of literary adaptation that'll have book clubs across the country in raptures.

Sense and Sensibility follows sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood as they navigate love, loss and financial uncertainty when they are forced to leave their family estate in Sussex. Elinor embodies "sense," prioritising reason and practicality, while Marianne is guided by "sensibility," valuing emotion and romanticism.

Both sisters have their sights set on different dashing men, with the other lead roles yet to be confirmed.

As for me, I am still praying for Dev Patel to be cast as the romantic lead of our dreams in any Jane Austen adaptation, really. So why not this one? Colonel Brandon anyone? He'd be perfect.

Netflix's Pride and Prejudice series.

But wait, there's more. Netflix is also jumping on the Austen bandwagon with their own miniseries adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Because let's be honest — can we ever really have too much Elizabeth Bennet in our lives? The answer is a resounding no.

This six-episode series promises to be a period-faithful adaptation of Austen's beloved novel, written by acclaimed author Dolly Alderton and directed by Euros Lyn. We're also looking at a very impressive cast with none other than Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden starring as our beloved Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Honestly, the casting of our dreams.

Olivia Colman, of The Crown and The Favourite fame, will star as the neurotic Mrs Bennet. And I can't imagine a better casting decision for the family matriarch.

"Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it," Alderton told Netflix.

"I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy."

What makes these new announcements particularly exciting is that we're witnessing what industry insiders are calling generational waves of Austen adaptations.

The 1990s gave us Emma Thompson's Oscar-winning Sense and Sensibility, Gwyneth Paltrow's Emma and the definitive BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries. The late 2000s brought us Keira Knightley's Pride and Prejudice and a string of modern adaptations, including Bridget Jones's Diary.

The 2020s tried to revive it, with the stunning Anya Taylor-Joy starring in a quirky version of Emma (a criminally underrated film, if you ask me). But then Dakota Johnson's Persuasion fell flat with viewers. And we seemed to have lost all steam.

Now, we're in the midst of a slow-motion revival that's building to what feels like a proper Austen renaissance. And honestly? We're here for every corset-laced, witty-banter-filled minute of it. There's something utterly comforting about knowing that no matter how chaotic the world gets, we can always rely on Jane Austen's perfectly crafted stories of love, society, and the occasional perfectly timed dramatic gesture to sweep us off our feet.

So mark your calendars, dust off your finest empire-waist frocks, and prepare for a deluge of bonnets, ballrooms, and breathtaking romantic tension. The new era of Jane Austen adaptations is upon us, and it's going to be absolutely divine.
