Katie Holmes started dating Jamie Foxx shortly after her divorce. She wasn't allowed to talk about it.

Katie Holmes has been back in the headlines this week. And it's because of her past relationships with two famous men: Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise.

Now, a look back at Holmes and Foxx's relationship has reminded us that, as a couple, they certainly liked to keep us guessing. While the famous couple were together for half a decade, they were notoriously private about their relationship and rarely made comments about each other.

While that seems like a perfectly respectable choice for a couple in the public eye, there is actually a very interesting backstory behind Holmes and Foxx's decision to keep their relationship on the down low for so many years.

And it has everything to do with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, and an alleged non-disclosure agreement (NDA) she signed during their divorce settlement.

Here's what we know.

Katie Holmes' divorce from Tom Cruise.

Holmes and Cruise were famously married from 2006 until 2012, when she filed for divorce. The divorce settlement was finalised in under two weeks, which, by any standards is rather fast. As a part of the agreement, Katie reportedly agreed to strict terms to expedite the process. She was awarded full custody of their daughter, Suri, but allegedly signed an NDA that restricted her from speaking about her future relationships for several years following the divorce. Neither Holmes nor Cruise have confirmed or denied these reports.

These alleged reports could explain why Holmes, who had two fairly public relationships prior, kept her relationship with Foxx, who she met a year after her divorce, so under wraps.

Since their split, Cruise has allegedly been estranged from the couple's daughter, Suri. As per Page Six, Suri's LaGuardia High School graduation pamphlet allegedly listed her name as "Suri Noelle" and not "Suri Cruise", which implies that she no longer goes by her father's last name.

Relationship with Jamie Foxx.

Foxx and Holmes allegedly started dating in 2012, but did not make their first public appearance until much later. They were first spotted celebrating Foxx's 48th birthday together in New York City in 2015.

Over the next several years, the couple were seen at various events and outings together, but neither spoke publicly about the relationship. In fact, they kept it so private that they did not officially attend any industry events together for several years. In January 2018, they attended the Clive Davis' Pre-Grammys Gala in New York City together, where they were photographed spending time together inside the event.

However, it wasn't until May 2019, after almost six years together, that Holmes and Foxx made their red carpet debut. The two attended the 2019 Met Gala and posed for photos on the red carpet.

The couple sadly split in August 2019, just three months after they stepped out together, and have largely maintained the same privacy when it comes to their breakup.

With the reports of an alleged NDA and a restriction on Holmes' speech when it came to her future partners, the private nature of Holmes and Foxx's relationship actually makes a lot of sense now.

Jamie Foxx's new comments in his Netflix special.

Given the lengths both Holmes and Foxx went to to keep their relationship to themselves, many were surprised when Foxx made some interesting comments, which people assume are about her, during his recent Netflix special, What Had Happened Was.

Speaking about his 2023 medical emergency, which was widely reported at the time, Foxx broke out in song and claimed that he was no longer dating white women.

"I've been cured of everything, no more white girls. I'm serious, no more white girls. No more white girls. No more. No more white girls," he said.

"I'm back on the black side of town! No more white girls. No more potato salad and raisins. No more white girls. No more spray tan, no more big t**s no ass, no more white girls."

Considering his most recent long-term relationship was with Holmes and they rarely addressed it publicly, many online have found his comments rather odd.
