Why the leaker of the 'jacketgate' video will not be fired by Channel Nine.

It was the controversial video that gained a lot of media attention, both in Australia and overseas, landing seasoned journalist Amber Sherlock in hot water.

And yet, despite the hoopla, it has been revealed that the individual who leaked the “jacketgate” footage will not be fired.

According to the Daily Telegraph, an investigation into the leaked footage of the off-air tiff between Amber Sherlock and Julie Snook has revealed that the leaker was “on-air talent”, and Channel 9 has chosen not to take any action.

The controversial clip which was leaked on January 12, showed Nine News Now host Amber Sherlock in a fiery off-air dispute with her fellow reporter Julie Snook, because they were both wearing white.

The incident was dubbed "jacketgate" by the media, with many media personalities weighing in on whether Sherlock's actions were appropriate.

“The editor who originally sent the clip around the newsroom got off pretty easily because they didn’t intend it to get out,” the insider told the Daily Telegraph.

“But originally they were saying once the (culprit) … was found, they would be reprimanded and potentially fired," the insider revealed.

“As the person is on air, they are limited in what they can do," they added.

As Mamamia had previously reported, both Sherlock and Snook downplayed the exchange.

In a statement to Nine Honey, Sherlock admitted live TV can be a "pretty stressful beast."

"As anyone knows, it’s never much fun rocking up to work or to a party in the same outfit as one of your colleagues or friends. I probably overreacted with the pressure of presenting a live news bulletin," the newsreader said.

Sports reporter Snook also threw in her two cents, telling Honey she's "good friends" with her colleague.

"What can I say? Amber and I just really love white! ... I really enjoy working with her, News is a fast moving environment and sometimes these things happen," she added.
