'Gogglebox is dominated by men's voices.' Isabelle Silbery on her sudden departure from the show.

For nine years, Isabelle Silbery and the women in her family were some of the most loved people on our screens.

With quippy one-liners and a wholesome family bond, Isabelle, her mother, Kerry, her grandmother, Emmie and, more recently, her daughter, Ruby, have offered some of the best moments on Gogglebox Australia.

However, after almost a decade on the show, Isabelle recently shared the sad news that she and her family would not be returning for the next season. The decision was made when Foxtel confirmed they would no longer air Gogglebox, but it was picked up by 10. The Silbery family were the 'only ones' not to be brought on to the new season.

"It's with a very heavy heart to announce that Mum, Ruby and I will not be returning to Gogglebox in 2025," Isabelle wrote on her Instagram.

"Foxtel have decided not to renew our beloved show and although the show will continue on Channel 10, the three of us have not been included in its new form. 9 years ago, I saw an opportunity to showcase real women's voices across multi-generations. Baby Ruby filling in for Emmie in recent seasons made it feel full circle."

Fans were understandably shocked at the announcement and expressed their disappointment at the show's decision to let the beloved family go.

One fan commented, "Whoever has made this decision has got it wrong. Thank you for being so generous & sharing yourselves with all of us for so long."

"This is sad and wrong. Just the comments on here show how loved you are. I'm so, so sorry. I don't understand this at all," another wrote.

Isabelle tells Mamamia she was taken aback by the news, saying she was asked to set aside time for the filming of Gogglebox's next season. That is, until she received a call that changed everything.

"After being told to keep the first half of next year free for Season 21, receiving the news over the phone that Mum and I's contract would not be renewed was not something I saw coming," Isabelle tells Mamamia

"We were oblivious to the big change that Foxtel were not renewing the show after 10 years and that 10 had picked it up solo."

Like any abrupt ending, the decision to cut her from the show left Isabelle and her family, particularly her mother, quite "blindsided."

"I won't lie, it was a shock. Mum was equally as shocked and we tried to make sense of things," Isabelle said.

But despite the sudden revelation they would have to say goodbye to Gogglebox so soon, Isabelle's biggest disappointment was actually the network's choice to remove their female perspective from the show.

"It was explained the cut was due to financial costs, however no other families have been cut which left me wondering why and who decided that three generations of women was the right choice to make, especially when the show is already dominated heavily by men's voices," she says.

Throughout her time on the show, Isabelle observed an "immense hunger for female representation" when it came to the Gogglebox audience. She's determined to continue using her voice for good moving forward.

"It was the sole reason we applied for the show in the first place. I saw a gap for multi-generational women's voices in the mainstream media and I just knew it was important for Australia to have this more than ever," she told Mamamia.

"The feedback from fans is that we enriched their lives, brought families on the couch together with their kids and sparked conversations they may have not otherwise had. This makes our nine years so worth it."

Now that their Gogglebox journey is over, that doesn't mean we won't be seeing our favourite mother and daughter duo again. In fact, Isabelle hopes to find other opportunities to work with her family and elevate women's voices.

"It's really important to us that we don't just jump into offers that come our way just for the sake of it. We are super passionate about representing real women's voices so our next step would have to be something that aligns with our core values."

Gogglebox Australia will return next year, with a Network 10 spokesperson extending their thanks to the Silbery family for their time on the show.

"The three generations of women in the Silbery family, brought a wealth of life-experiences, personality, empathy, humour and opinion every time they sat down to watch the telly together," they told Mamamia. "The Silbery family will not be returning next season, but we thank them for their incredible contribution to the show over the past nine years."
