If rumours are to be believed, the ability to plug in headphones could be removed as soon as the next line of phones.

Talk around the alleged change is so intense is it has even attracted the attention of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Wozniak told The Australian Financial Review the removal would cause outrage among consumers.

“If it’s missing the 3.5mm earphone jack, that’s going to tick off a lot of people,” he said.

“I would not use Bluetooth … I don’t like wireless. I have cars where you can plug in the music, or go through Bluetooth, and Bluetooth just sounds so flat for the same music.”

The proposed change is yet to be confirmed but there has been a great deal of industry talk about the alleged development.

An unknown source told Forbes earlier this month the company had been working on custom chips for the headphones for a few years.

The source claimed the headphones would use Bluetooth technology in order to connect the user's device with their paired ear buds.

The Wall Street Journal has also suggested headphones would be removed in the iPhone's latest release.

Sources who spoke to the journal said the removal of headphones would allow the new models to be thinner and more water-resistant.

It is rumoured the next iPhone could come as soon as September but the giant is yet to confirm.

I guess we'll have to just wait and see.
