"I've had an injectable nose job."

And I’m not ashamed to admit it.

Nor am I ashamed to say that I followed up the temporary, injectable nose job with a permanent one.

Gone are the days when injections are only used for getting rid of wrinkles. These days, you can even get temporary boob jobs.

So, why did I get it done?

The idea of injecting a ‘filler’ into your nose, with a doctor standing over your face moulding it, is strange, I know, but I did it because I wanted to see what my nose (and ultimately, my face) would look like if I had a proper nose job.

I grew up with a small nose, with hardly a nose bridge, and it was also slightly hooked. I never thought to get a nose job. I never liked the idea of plastic surgery, but I was also never happy with my nose.

There’s the stereotype of Asian women, particularly Koreans, as using plastic surgery excessively. I don’t deny that the plastic surgery culture is huge, and I’m not totally comfortable with it.

But a couple of years ago, after starting uni, I had to get glasses. The catch? I couldn’t get any frames that I wanted because none of them would sit on my nose. I had to get the uglier ones with enough height in the nose pads, so that the glasses wouldn’t slip and rest on my cheeks, rather than my nose.

And that’s when I thought ‘Ok. Let’s do something about this’.

I didn’t want to jump into to a permanent nose job straight away. I was in two minds about it, so when I heard that I could get a temporary injection, I thought that it was worth giving it a go.

What did it feel like?

The process took no longer than an hour, it hurt a little (and I hate needles which didn’t help), but once I was off the surgery bed, I was out and about like nothing had happened.

Of course, it was a little weird. For a couple of months, I was pretty sure I could still change the shape of my nose a little. If I felt it looked a little crooked, I was certain that by touching it in a few different ways, it would straighten out.

For a good year at least, my nose was a little higher and less hooked. Even my face looked a little slimmer.

But what I loved the most was that no one could tell. It looked natural. And I was in love with my slightly enhanced face.

Plus, it was a much more practical nose. I could finally wear the glasses and sunglasses I wanted.

But what happened to the filler, I hear you asking.

The only way to describe it is to say that the residue essentially ‘melted’.

It happened gradually; and I eventually got my old nose back. When it was obvious to me that the filler was pretty much all gone, I made the decision to go ahead with a permanent nose job.

So on my 2 month-long trip to Korea earlier this year, I went with the aim of coming back home with a permanently new nose, among other things, of course.

The surgery itself took no longer than 1.5 hrs. I was out of the hospital straightaway, and only had a week-long recovery.

Once the bandages got taken off, I was absolutely amazed. My nose was higher, straighter and my face looked a little slimmer. Hardly anyone could pinpoint what was different about my face. Even the doctor who gave me my first experience with a nose job couldn’t tell until I turned to the side.

The aim for me was not to take off the bandages and for my face to scream ‘Look! A nose job!’ It was to make a little improvement that looked completely natural.

You might think I’m crazy to have basically had two nose jobs. But the injectable was a good tester for me, while I was still contemplating whether or not to make a permanent change.

And I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who’s thinking about a nose job, but isn’t too sure yet.
