'I spoke to Julia Morris and Robert Irwin, and they spilled some juicy I'm A Celeb secrets.'

There are certain combos that just work together. Strawberries and cream. Black and gold. Piña coladas and getting caught in the rain. And Julia Morris and Robert Irwin have somehow — against the odds and their 35-year age gap — ended up finding quite the magical dynamic together.

The iconic comedian's chaotically loose vibe is contrasted masterfully against the animal lover's stabilising and sweet demeanour.

And viewers are set to see a lot more of this twosome as the next season of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here is set to premiere on Channel 10 in just over a week, on January 19, 2025.

I caught up with the dynamic duo ahead of filming, and they spilled exactly why they get along so well.

"For me, I think the secret is the fact that off screen and on screen, the dynamic is exactly the same," Irwin said. "If you get along authentically, you get along in real life, then it's gonna work in reality."

Morris agrees, adding that their friendship was formed long before the cameras started rolling.

"There's a deep-seated kindness between us and there has been for many, many years. Robert and I knew that this was going to be exactly what the viewers saw on screen.

"They're like, 'How do they do this?' We already had a friendship."

In our chat, the two do play-off each other like they've been buddies for years.

When asked if they can spill anything on what celebrities will be dropped into the jungle to duke it out to win the $100,000 for their charity, they couldn't help but mess with me.

"Here's the full list of everyone going in," Robert began, before quickly adding "I'm kidding. I'm kidding."

Jokes aside, Irwin is confident viewers won't be disappointed. "We're hearing from the network that the cast are the best yet," he promised.

"We've had some pretty exquisite casts over the years. But apparently, this year there's gonna be a number of celebs where our audience will say 'how on earth did we get them?'"

As for all those cryptic clues flying around, Morris said that they are confusing for a reason. "The trick is definitely in each of the clues that it could actually be a couple of different people," she said.

But it turns out the hosts don't actually know who the clues belong to — they're just as much in the dark as the rest of us.

"When we arrive in Africa, we get the full rundown of everyone in there. It is that moment where you see everyone for the first time, and your jaw's on the floor," Irwin said.

This is a measure to ensure that Morris and Irwin don't accidentally reveal the identities of any celebs leading up to the premiere.

"We have a ceremony when we arrive in Africa where the network and ITV sit us down," Morris said. "It means Robert and I can't trip up in our multiple interviews before [laughs]."

Considering how much these two love to yap, it makes a lot of sense.

Morris is excited about the mix of celebs spanning different age groups.

"I really like the way that over last year, we've been able to dovetail our old-guard television performers with our new guard, which are our internet stars," Morris said.

"It's giving the slightly more senior crowd an idea of who is absolutely blasting the internet apart."

Meanwhile, Irwin can't wait to soak up the environment, as the crew head back to Kruger National Park in South Africa.

"The wildlife of South Africa is so completely different to what we have over here. It is just amazing. We've worked on conservation projects in the area for many, many years," he said.

"I'm excited to just get back over there and be immersed in the wildlife. There are a lot of parallels, except the difference is in country Australia, you gotta stop and let the roos cross the road. Whereas when you're driving to set in South Africa, you stop and let the hippos cross the road or the baboons."

With such stunning scenery, Irwin is hyped for the challenges platforming this region in all its beauty.

"The trials this year are gonna be crazy and they're on quite a grand level," Irwin added. "We really are showcasing the amazing natural world… you get to see full 360 of the Blyde River Canyon, the largest grand canyon in the world."

But with the good comes the bad and every year, the hosts have to dodge the rumours that the entire show is fake.

"I think people who don't watch the show could easily believe that," Morris said. "But anyone who has watched the show you can clearly see. I mean, you can tell it's real from all the hairdos [laughs]."

Irwin first visited the set in South Africa as a child, so he can vouch for its legitimacy. "The first time I got to go and see the set was season two when it was pretty fresh out the door. I was 10 years old," he said. "As a kid it's, it's really eye-opening and it is a 24 hour show."

Morris has become a bit of a viral sensation in recent years for the way that she speaks on the show, and it turns out that some of the colourful words she drops are part of a game she plays with her daughters.

"We played a little game I've been doing with my kids for a couple of years where I'm like, 'Give me a word and I'll get it into the show.' Whether it's antiestablishmentarianism, I'll get it into the show," Julia admitted.

The comedian's rogue opening lines often go viral on X and TikTok, but the internet is something she actively avoids.

"To be honest with you? I just never get back to the internet to notice. I had a big skin cancer taken off my face and it's taken out most of my eyebrow. Nobody's actually seen me properly since September. I was just thinking about it the other day like, 'Oh God, I gotta do a live soon'," she said.

"As for the internet, I honestly try not to feed it. I don't read it because every time I'm looking for some validation, I will get a slap down of negativity."

Speaking of viral moments, when I mentioned a TikTok I saw in the UK series where there was "a rat sleeping with someone most of the night" and they didn't realise, Julia didn't miss a beat.

"That was my life for 20 years," Morris quipped. "Oh sorry, I misunderstood the question, that's terribly awkward," she joked, as Robert and I burst into hysterics.

But now the million-dollar question (or at least $100,000 one) — would either host ever survive in the I'm A Celebrity jungle?

Morris quickly confirmed she would last mere seconds in the jungle but assured Robert that "I think you'd be fine."

Her co-host disagrees. "Not the eating trials that I couldn't do. I just can't get my head around that. I'm not a picky eater at all, but I like to know where my food comes from."

I'm A Celebrity will premiere on January 19 on Channel 10. The series will also be available to stream on Paramount+ and 10Play.
