After a donations scandal in early 2018, in which Sam Dastyari requested a Chinese-linked business pay a $1670 travel expense bill he owed 35-year-old senator resigned.

In his exclusive interview with Fairfax, the politician is evidently taking responsibility for his actions, sharing that part of the reason he wants to go on reality television is so that when his daughter is old enough to google him, she does not think her father is defined by the scandal that led to his resignation.

The former Labor member represented New South Wales in the Australian Senate from 2013 to 2018, and was the first person of Iranian origin to sit in parliament.

After leaving parliament in 2017, due to her dual British-Australian citizenship which is prohibited under Section 44 of the Australian Constitution, Jacqui Lambie is hoping to use this reality TV appearance to campaign and connect with young voters.

Speaking to 10 Daily, the 47-year-old, mum-of-two said she thinks her former military experience will help her overcome any challenge the show throws at her, although she can’t say for sure because she’s never actually watched the show.

“[I] wouldn’t have a smick what you do in there. I like to go in blindfolded, I find that so much more exciting,” she said.

“There are no perceptions then, you just walk in and take it as it comes.”

However, with her former senate colleague, and rival, Sam Dastyari set to join her by the campfire, will they be able to keep things civil?

Renowned Hawthorn player Dermott Brereton is set to bring his signature gung-ho attitude to the jungle.

Even though he’s walked the Kokoda Trail in preparation for the event, he’s not too sure how he’s going to fare when it comes to the food challenges, which can involve animal offal and other more ‘unique’ cuts.

Angie Kent and Yvie Jones, who recently left Channel Ten’s Gogglebox, were revealed as the first 2019 contestants.

We already know the pair make for brilliant TV viewing. We know because we watched them critique all sorts of Australian TV, and laughed out loud at their commentary more times than we can count.

In December, the pair explained that because Angie no longer lives in Sydney, the “logistics” of getting to the same couch so often to watch TV together became too difficult.

One thing is for sure: there won’t be any televisions in the jungle.
