Daisy Coleman’s alleged rapist will not face sexual assault charges after he pled guilty to “endangering the welfare of a child”.

Matthew Barnett, 19, pled guilty two years after allegedly raping Missouri teenager Daisy Coleman.

His sentence is two years of probation, 100 hours of community service, and a “substantial amount of restitution”.

Coleman, now 16, attempted suicide earlier this week.

 1. Nine-year old boy dies after leaving hospital

A Brisbane family are demanding answers after their 9-year old son died on Monday – the morning after he was released from hospital.

Hunter Marr’s father Matthew said he had pleaded with hospital staff not to discharge his son, who was still coughing badly and struggling to breathe in the hours before he left hospital.

His death is under investigation by the coroner and the hospital.

Asthma claimed the lives of 378 Australians in 2011, according to the National Asthma Council of Australia.

The Marrs’ grief has triggered an outpouring of generosity with a Go Fund Me fund-raising page  set up to help the family with funeral and ongoing costs.

2. Young girls sexually assaulted.

Police are searching for a man after two girls aged two and six were indecently and sexually assaulted in a toilet in a western Sydney park yesterday.

The girls were with their family at a park on Campbell Hill Road in Guildford at around 1:30.

Police say the man they’re looking for is of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean appearance, 20 – 30 years old, about 165cm tall and chubby.

He was wearing a dark shirt with a black hooded jacket and blue shorts with white stripes.

3. Whaling ship approaching Australian waters

A Japanese harpoon ship is said to be approaching Australian waters in the sub-Antarctic. It is expected to enter the Australian Exclusive Economic Zone around Macquarie Island around noon today

Sea Shepherd Australia said it had notified Environment Minister Greg Hunt of the approaching harpoon ship and called for the Australian government’s intervention to halt it.

4. Bali death bodies

The bodies of Queensland woman Noelene Bischoff and her 14-year-old daughter Yvana are to be returned to Australia from Bali today.

Karangasem police chief detective Adnan Pandibu said forensic examinations have been completed in Bali and the Sunshine Coast pair will be returned to Queensland where the state coroner will conduct autopsies.

The RSPCA in Tasmania has called for tougher penalties for animal cruelty offences after a spate of horrific dog attacks in the past few weeks.

6. Education overhaul

The Abbott Government is appointing author and former teacher Kevin Donnelly and business professor Ken Wiltshire to lead a review into the national curriculum.

The Education Minister told The Australian he is seeking the blueprint to overhaul the curriculum amid fears a “cultural Left” agenda is failing students.

7. Links between infertility treatment and complications with pregnancies

A new study has shown that babies conceived using assisted reproductive technology are twice as likely to suffer serious complications including stillbirth, preterm birth, low birthweight and neonatal death.

University of Adelaide researchers compared the outcomes of more than 300,000 births in South Australia over 17 years from 1986-2002.

8. Mosman murder

A Coroner’s Inquest into the death of murderer Elliot Coulson has made no adverse findings against the police.

Elliot Coulson murdered his girlfriend Kate Malonyay in her Mosman apartment in April last year.

The coroner heard he was an abusive and controlling man who lied and led a double life. He murdered Malonyay after she ended the relationship.

He then jumped from a hotel balcony in Surfers Paradise before police attempted to arrest him.

A study has shown that 2- 3 days work a week is the best combination for work/life balance for Mums.

Research covering 35,000 Australian families from the Australian Institute of Family Studies showed that when women work more than three days a week they risk creating an unhappy home, as they rush their family time and miss key family events.

News out today on why Ralph Lauren’s niece Jenny went on a drunken rampage on a transatlantic flight that culminated in an emergency landing.

The reason – because her seat didn’t recline.

The rampage saw her chase two flight attendants up the aisle, abuse them, calling one a “fucking ugly blonde bitch” and then shove a flight attendant so hard she hit the wall of the plane.

In the end, Lauren — who still faces civil liabilities for the emergency landing, which cost Delta $43,158 to divert more than 200 people — was fined € 2,500 and released.
