As someone with a weird aversion to closed-in shoes, every year when winter rolls around I find myself in a bit of a bind.
I've never been a big sneaker girl, and haven't bought a pair of ballet flats since they came back into fashion. I don't mind a boot, but they're more of a 'sometimes' shoe.
I live in slides and backless flats 99 per cent of the time.

So back in April, when I spotted a pair of suede slides lined with fluffy shearling, I saw my opportunity. Could they be… an outdoor shoe with all the benefits of a slipper? A way to keep my feet toasty without succumbing to the need for a sock?
Finally, a shoe to fill that very niche gap in my wardrobe!
They weren't cheap, as far as my budget goes. In this economic climate, $250 for a pair of slides is an investment, and these were… a bit of a wildcard. But when I tried them on, I finally understood why they call them "footbeds" — they're like a bed, for your foot.
