Millennials, the latest relic of your 2010 wardrobe is back.

There was a moment in the mid-noughties when absolutely everyone was wearing an owl necklace.

It was the height of the boho trend. Celebrities were teaming empire-line dresses with low-rise jeans, and the accessory of choice was a big metal bird around your neck, with beady black eyes and a tail that fluttered when you moved.

Watch: How many outfits can we create from Alix's closet staples? Post continues below.

The owls were inescapable. They were one of the earliest memories many of us have of a high street dupe — the girls on The Hills were wearing them out in Hollywood, but you could get a version for 12 bucks at Diva.

Our Deputy Editor, Stacey Hicks, even dug hers out of a box purely for research purposes. You can see it in all its glory below.

In that era of rather questionable taste, documented only on our MySpace pages, the 'statement necklace' became an essential part of every woman's accessory routine.

Long pendants gave way to collar necklaces embellished with chunky faux gemstones and aggressive spikes. The coolest flex was wearing them with your peplum top, skinny jeans and platform heels.

We'd include a visual, but do you even need one? The memory is ingrained in all of us.

But then the trend for dainty jewellery took over. We all put our bold necklaces away in forgotten boxes in our closets, forever tangled in a sea of brass. And that's where they've been laid to rest…

And while Edgar Jones' aesthetic leans more towards refined boho, it won't be long until all the It-girls are embracing dangly pendants again.

In a recent reel, leading stylist and author Allison Bornstein gave her tips on how to incorporate statement jewels like long necklaces into your daily looks.

New York fashion writer Leandra Medine Cohen has been campaigning for this trend for months now, showing how she layers bold and bejewelled necklaces with unconventional outfits.
