We have a royal baby name. But people are freaking out over how it's pronounced.

In case you missed it, Prince William and Kate Middleton have announced the name of their newest addition – Louis.

And while we’re still quietly relieved they chose not to name him Prince Albert, now, it turns out, the internet is frantically googling how the hell Prince Louis is actually pronounced.

People have been torn on whether it’s pronounced ‘Lou-ee’ or ‘Lou-es’. Well, we can now confirm, it’s pronounced ‘Lou-ee’.

The name has long been a favourite with monarchies, and was especially popular with the French royals, who had 18 kings all named Louis. Marie Antoinette was married to King Louis XVI.

But it's also a family name for the British royals, too.

Prince Philip's grandfather was Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg, and Prince Charles had a favourite great uncle named Earl Louis Mountbatten.

Louis was born on April 23, and popular guesses at the time for his name included either Albert or Arthur.

Meanwhile, another famous Louis has been celebrating the naming of Britain's newest prince.

Louis Tomlinson - also pronounced 'Lou-ee' - welcomed the younger Louis on Twitter, offering to show him the ways of the world.
