'I have hooded eyes. Here are 3 things I tried to fake an eyelift.'

Some people will try many different things to turn back time or to look a little younger - whether it be cosmetic surgery or non-invasive tweaks like injectables. 

If you're anything like me, you may be trying to put it all off for just a little longer - but want a temporary solution to help lift sagging hooded eyelids. 

Recently, I discovered I had three products in my makeup stash that were begging to be tried out. And all of them claim to help hooded/saggy eyelids. 

So, come along with me on what can only be described as an... interesting experiment.

1. Remescar Sagging Eyelids Cream, $42.99.

First up, we have Remescar Sagging Eyelids cream. You can pick it up from the chemist, and it claims to ‘instantly activate, lift and re-tighten' the upper eyelids.

On the instructions, it tells you to rub a rice-size amount between two fingertips to activate, then wipe from the inner to the outer corner of the sagging hood of your eyelids. 

You're then supposed to keep your eyes closed and fan them for about three to four minutes.

The verdict.

After about four minutes you can feel your eye area tighten and lift, but as you can see - the results were not optimal. It feels like I have dried Clag glue on my eyes. 

The first time I tried it, the cream lifted both sides (as you can see from the photos), however the minute I tried to used primer on my eyelids it ‘de-activated’ the cream and they sagged again. 

I tried a second time, and as you can see the result was just comical. I think I look like a weird cartoon meme. Either way, I can tell you I was NOT leaving the house like that.

My overall verdict for this? Save your money, as it was a big fail.

2. Eyelid tape.

Next up I tried eyelid tape. These little curved strips are used for hooded, droopy, uneven and mono eyelids to create a deep double eyelid. 

You simply just peel them off the backing sheet and press them into your eyelid, and they should help deepen the hood and push it back, exposing your lower mobile lid. 

There are tons of different options on the market - just search 'eyelid tape', and you'll find some on Amazon.

The verdict.

While these are easy to use and exposed my mobile lid - getting them in the exact position takes a bit of practice and they are not totally invisible. They were a bit exposed even when looking straight ahead and felt like they might move.

I think with a bit more trial and error these could work quite well and would only end up being noticeable if you were really looking for them on my face. And let's be honest, nobody will be doing that.

3. Face tape.

Lastly, I tried face tape. This product is essentially a non-surgical facelift - if you can successfully get it right and not nearly take an eye out in the process.

I’ve seen this used in movies and thought - surely, it's as easy as slapping it on, pulling it tight and voila... bye, bye 15 years of ageing! 

Well, let me tell you something, I felt like I needed to be an octopus to get everything where I needed. 

First up, I placed it too high, and it just looked like I had raised my eyebrows in a state of shock. I also kept flicking the strap accidentally like a rubber band on my face.

The next attempt was better but pulled a bit tight. It did however give me an idea of what I would look like if I had a ‘fox eye thread lift.’ 

The verdict.

You really need your hair down to hide the tape and tightening thread. I think with a bit of work I can find the right placement for these and get them to work their magic and look a bit more natural than the results in these photos. 

As you can see, I might have gotten a bit carried away with my ‘eye lift.’

The main concern I have with these is that they will give way, and the ‘lift’ will crash from the third floor to the lower ground while out in public, making it look as though my face was melting off. 

Just take a moment to picture the tape flicking off in slow motion and everything slowly sliding down.

One happy success I did have with the Face Tape was on my neck. Between ageing and significant weight loss a couple of years ago, I have been left with what looks like chicken feet on my neck - those double vertical bands down the front of my neck. 

Honestly, they are the thing that I feel ages me most of all and that I am most self-conscious about. 

Well, I placed the tape on either side of my neck to see what would happen and WOW! I really love the difference it made there, and it's probably where I will end up using the remainder of the tape to be honest.

The kit I used was from here, but there are plenty of face tape options on the market, depending on your price range.

My final thoughts.

After trying all of these different techniques, I think I'll let my makeup skills do the work of lifting my hooded eyes for now. 

I think on one side, the hood/sag is beyond non-surgical help - so next year, after putting it off for so long, I will be having a blepharoplasty. 

While it's partially vanity (I mean, I love doing eyeshadow looks and there is so much lost real estate hiding under my hood), my eyelids are sitting on my eyelashes, and I can feel them being pushed down - so it is becoming a necessity at this point.
