We all know that baby naming is serious business. But there’s one important factor that you might want to consider when deciding what to put on that birth certificate.
And we bet it’s something you hadn’t thought about either.
While as a parent, we might love the name we choose for our little bub, the reality is there are another group of people’s opinions we should be factoring in.
Friends? Nope.
Family. Uh-ah.
It’s employers.
The Sunshine Coast Daily reports that Sabrina Rogers-Anderson found, while researching baby names and baby name trends, that a number of employers had admitted to judging a person by their name.
“Ms Rogers-Anderson said they found themselves prejudiced by certain names or unique spellings,” Sunshine Coast Daily report.
"With resumes often the first impression potential employers had for would-be employees, a person's name could sometimes make or break their chances."
So if you’re after a name that ticks all of the boxes, our suggestion is going for a gender neutral baby name. That way, your future child won't face any discrimination based on the gender of their name when their employer looks at their resume ('cause we know it happens - but hopefully by the time they get a job it doesn't).
