I’m sorry for the visual imagery you’re about to get.
There’s a new beauty term you need to know about and the name is, well, equal parts hilarious and horrific.
You know when you’re wearing lipstick and it ends up soaking into all the creases of your lips and rubs off in the middle? That’s apparently known as ‘butthole lips’ because they look exactly like, erm, a butthole.
It's the bane of every liquid lipstick lover's existence and occurs even with the best of liquid lipstick formulas. But how come you never see beauty YouTubers or Instagrammers with lips like bums? What's the secret people like Kylie Jenner aren't telling us?
According to one Reddit user, as well as possible filtering or photoshop, there's one other thing that many beauty YouTubers now have in common that would help.

"To be absolutely honest? Lip fillers. A lot of YouTube gurus who have flawless, smooth liquid lipstick application have fillers to smooth out their lips," wrote OhHiAndie, in response to a question about how to avoid 'butthole lips'.
"I just want to be clear that the flawless lips you see on Instagram are usually not achievable on natural lips. Lips that haven’t been enhanced have lines, just like people in reality (without filters) have pores. It’s natural."
It makes sense - even the best liquid lipstick formulas can only do so much.

Many people are left disappointed when their makeup doesn't look the same as in these pictures, unaware of why.
"The problem is, the Kylie style super plumped up fillers tend to be the only ones most people notice. I'm sure there are tonnes of YouTube and Instagram makeup artists that have luscious, smooth lips that look like they've hit the genetics jackpot to be a lipstick model, when in reality it's just very tastefully done fillers," added another Reddit user.
Fortunately needles in your lips aren't the only way to get smooth and long-lasting lipstick-lacquered lips.
Many recommended using a lip scrub to exfoliate the dead the skin and lip balm to hydrate.
"Use a lip scrub and lip mask or balm, as you would use a sleeping mask for the face! Overnight is the time for your skin and body to recover and since you are not going to be applying any makeup lip product, this is the time to tackle," wrote yoonsbeautytribune.
"If your lip is moisturised and plumped overnight, liquid lipsticks would definitely work better."
