Rick Moranis was the goofy flailing dad on the hit 90s movie, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. We grew up with Moranis on our screens. We loved him as the bumbling scientist who shrunk his kids, and probably thought he was the funniest family man on the planet.
The Canadian actor, comedian and writer also starred in Ghostbusters and The Flintstones. But then he just disappeared. We haven’t seen or heard anything from – or about – Moranis for about ten years.
So how did the talented actor go from movie star, to completely falling off the radar?
Sadly, the 62-year-old lost his wife to breast cancer in 1991. This left him to raise their two children on his own.
"I pulled out of making movies in about '96 or '97. I'm a single parent, and I just found that it was too difficult to manage raising my kids and doing traveling involved in making movies," Moranis told USAToday.
"The decision in my case to become a stay-at-home-dad, which people do all the time, I guess wouldn’t have meant as much to people if I had had a very simple kind of make-a-living existence and decided I needed to spend more time at home," Moranis told UPROXX.
The actor took a bit of a break from acting, which he says turned in to a long break.
