Hamish Blake and Andy Lee have announced they are quitting radio, making 2017 the last year they will be on our air waves.
Two of Australia’s most popular comedians, the duo have decided to put more of their time and their energy into a secret television project.
Friday, December 2, was their last show for 2016. A throwback series named ’10 Years In 10 Weeks’ will air in January instead of their live program. They will then return in March for their final year on radio.
The pair told their listeners the sad news on air and said they had originally been considering making 2016 their last year on the airwaves.
“In light of new TV arrangements we were actually thinking of finishing up this year, but we are having so much fun so it seemed crazy to stop,” Andy, 35, said on their program on Friday.
Hamish, 34, explained the reason the duo decided to call it so early is due to ongoing speculation about their future.
“It’s a funny thing to call it a year out,” Hamish said, the Herald Sun reports.
“It feels a bit like we’re making a big deal about dessert when we haven’t finished eating our entrees yet. For whatever reason there’s so much speculation about whether we’re leaving radio. This has been the first time we’ve known for sure what we want to do. So we wanted to let our listeners know so they can come on the ride together and it can be a really fun celebratory year and we can go out with a bang.”
