Grant Hackett found safe after being reported missing by his family.

Former Olympian and father-of-two Grant Hackett has been found “safe” by police in Queensland after being reported missing by his family.

Channel Nine reports Hackett has spoken with police and indicated he does not want to have “anything further” to do with his family.

It’s understood he will be taken to a private health facility, according to the network’s nightly report.

His father Neville had declared the swimmer a missing person on Thursday afternoon, telling the media, “He’s definitely a missing person. He’s mentally disturbed and needs urgent help.

“Grant, let us know where you are. We love you… and we want to help you.”

The former world-record holder was arrested at his parent’s home around midday on Wednesday.

At the time, Neville told The Gold Coast Bulletin, “Grant’s got a medical problem and it manifested itself here this morning …We decided he needed some treatment but there was no way he was going to go and get treatment this morning so we called the police.”

Eight officers attended the scene and were said to have found Hackett asleep.

No one was harmed while restraining Hackett or taking him to the nearby Sourthport watch house.

“He was raving and ranting a bit ... He didn’t even make any threats but was not what you say is a normal person. It’s what I’d call a bit of a breakdown," Neville said.

Following his release on Wednesday afternoon, Hackett's brother, Craig told Nine News Grant was now a "completely different" person.

"The Grant Hackett that Australia fell in love with, this is not Grant Hackett ... He is there in body but he is not there in mind, soul, or spirit," Craig said.

"This is now a chronic problem and it looks like it's not going to go away in a hurry."

The physiotherapist added, "He is a danger to himself, he is a danger to the community and poor mum and dad have tried to look after him so much. I'm concerned for their welfare."

"To see someone who was so dominant and had the world at his feet to now, we don't know what is going to happen - it doesn't look encouraging."

Then on Thursday morning before being reported missing, Hackett hit back at Craig's comments, sharing an image of himself bloodied and bruised in a hospital ward alongside an unsubstantiated accusation against his brother.

"My brother comments to the media... but does anyone know he beat the s**t out of me. Everyone knows he is an angry man," Hackett wrote.

The Hackett family has urged anyone with any information about the whereabouts of Grant Hackett to contact the police, the family directly or the media.
