Where are they now? The cast of The Goonies, 37 years later.

In 1985, we met loyal Mikey, smart Data, mouthy Mouth, hungry Chunk, cool-headed Stef, pretty Andy, and dependable Brand. They were the kids we rooted for in The Goonies, a film about misfits on the hunt for pirate's treasure, so they can save their neighbourhood in the small town of Astoria. Of course, they're not the only ones after One-eyed Willy's loot; hot on their tail is the evil Fratelli family.

The Goonies is a film many of us return to again and again, even though we're hardly children anymore. And of course, neither are the core cast. It has been 37 years since The Goonies premiered and the kids have all grown up.

Here's where they are now.

Sean Astin (Mikey).

Astin has been very active in the film and entertainment industry, with over 170 acting credits to his name, including 1991's fantastic Toy Soldiers and 1992's Encino Man. He has also directed, produced and written several productions over the years.

But aside from The Goonies, Astin's most popular role to date is probably as hobbit and Frodo's best friend, Samwise Gamgee, in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

He also appeared in Netflix's fantasy-adventure behemoth Stranger Things, a show actually inspired by The Goonies.

Astin is married with three kids, which makes me feel very, very old.

Ke Huy Quan (Data).

Recently, Quan picked up the award for Outstanding Supporting Performance for the superb Everything Everywhere All at Once at the Gotham Awards.

"Wow, this is incredible," he said in his acceptance speech. "This time last year, all I was hoping for was just a job. And just when I think that it can't get any better, it does. What an incredible honour."

Quan's acting CV is much more sparse than Astin's, which is likely due to Hollywood's lack of diversity and its reliance on stereotype when it comes to Asian actors. Aside from The Goonies and Everything Everywhere, playing Short Round in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is likely Quan's most famous role.

But look at him now. You go, Data!

Corey Feldman (Mouth).

Feldman had wonderful success in the 80s, with films like Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, and License to Drive under his belt. He and fellow actor Corey Haim, who died in 2010, became known as "the two Coreys" and were in a number of films together.

During his teen years, Feldman fell into hard drugs and substance abuse. In recent years, he revealed this was due to mistreatment he suffered at the hands of his exploitative mother and being sexually abused by paedophiles within the entertainment industry. 

Feldman's focus shifted into music after meeting Michael Jackson. After accusations of sexual abuse by Jackson was raised in 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland, Feldman said the singer had never acted inappropriately against him and the documentary was one-sided. However, he changed his mind after a few days, saying, "I can no longer defend [Jackson]. It comes to a point where, as an advocate for victims, it becomes impossible for me to remain virtuous and not at least consider what's being said." 

In a later tweet, he said that while he stands by all victims; it does not negate the good memories he has of Jackson.

Jeff Cohen (Chunk).

After making the "truffle shuffle" famous in The Goonies, Cohen gave up acting to practice law. He is a now an attorney and has written for a number of publications.

In 2013, he was mentioned in Variety's Dealmakers Impact Report, which is a compilation of top financiers, attorneys, executives, and entrepreneurs that have changed the entertainment landscape.

Last year, Cohen told MailOnline that he left Hollywood because he didn't get roles after losing weight.

"There were basically about four fat kids in town, so every time there was a fat kid role you saw the same people at the audition. It was survival of the fattest. But when I hit puberty, it was a career-ender for me. I was transforming from Chunk to hunk and I couldn't get roles anymore."

Martha Plimpton (Stef).

Like Astin, Plimpton has been in the entertainment industry for decades, playing numerous roles across both film and television. As a teenager in the 80s, she dated actor River Phoenix for about three years. They broke up due to his substance abuse - he died in 1993 from a drug overdose at just 23 years old.

Plimpton is also a highly regarded stage actor, winning three Tony Awards.

Her most notable role since The Goonies is likely as Virginia Chance in TV series Raising Hope, which ran from 2010 to 2014 and for which she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series.

Kerri Green (Andy).

After The Goonies, which was Green's first acting gig, the roles seemed to dry up. Green did great work in the 1986 film Lucas, alongside Charlie Sheen and Corey Haim, but the work just didn't come her way.

She later went to college and studied art, and founded the film production company Independent Women Artists. She is now married with two children.

Despite her move away from acting, she still reminisces of her time on The Goonies... and that kiss with co-star Josh Brolin. 

"I was 17 at the time and it was totally embarrassing. It’s the time of your life when you are the most self-conscious anyway," she told People magazine. "Then you're being filmed and you have to kiss Josh Brolin - just humiliating!"

Like Green, The Goonies was Brolin's big break. But unlike Green, his acting career went from strength to strength. Over the years, he has starred in several successful films including No Country for Old Men, Milk, True Grit, Deadpool 2, and as the Big Bad in Marvel's mega-blockbusters Infinity War and Endgame.

Brolin was married to fellow actor Diane Lane from 2004 to 2013, and they have four children together. His father, actor James Brolin, famously married singer Barbra Streisand in 1998.

Despite his career achievements since The Goonies, Brolin's love for his first film has never wavered - he has called it his "greatest experience" and that he has never had more fun on a movie. Awww.

John Matuszak (Sloth).

Before winning our hearts as disfigured gentle giant Sloth in The Goonies, Matuszak was an NFL player. His big frame helped him play roles in North Dallas Forty, Caveman, The Ice Pirates, and One Man Force.

Matuszak also appeared in a number of television shows like A-Team, M*A*S*H, and Miami Vice.

Sadly, he died on June 17, 1989, as a result an accidental overdose of a prescription drug. He was only 38 years old.

Anne Ramsey (Mama Fratelli), Robert Davi (Jake Fratelli), Joe Pantoliano (Frances Fratelli).

Special mention must go to the Fratelli family, the best villains you could ever hope to have in a kids' adventure film.

Robert Davi, 69, and Joe Pantoliano, 71, who played brothers Jake and Frances respectively, are still very active in the entertainment industry. 

In more sad news, Anne Ramsey, who played Mama Fratelli, died of cancer in 1988. She was 59 years old.

There have been rumours of a Goonies sequel for many years, with the plot revolving around the kids of the original Goonies. Tentatively, the film is expected to be released in 2027, but considering there is no concrete evidence as yet, this is all hearsay.

But we can hope. After all, Goonies never say die, right?
