Someone found a way to 'rename' Margaret Court Arena on Google maps.

With AAP.

Earlier today, Margaret Court Arena was renamed after one of the tennis legend’s playing rivals on Google Maps.

In certain search results on the mapping system, the Melbourne Park stadium on Thursday appeared as Evonne Goolagong Arena, in reference to the seven-time grand slam champion.

But clicking on the icon for EGA snapped Google back to reality and it presented information for the arena named after the tennis legend who recently courted controversy for airing her views on same-sex marriage.

Two weeks ago, Court penned an open letter vowing to boycott Qantas over the company's support for marriage equality.

The letter, and a fiery follow-up interview on The Project, sparked calls for the former world number one's name to be removed from the Melbourne stadium.

“Too many will die by suicide because of this kind of intolerance, this kind of bashing and yes, this kind of bullying. This is not OK," retired tennis star Martina Navratilova wrote in an open letter to Margaret Court Arena.

Mia Freedman is favour of changing the stadium's name. Post continues below.

"The platform people like Margaret Court use needs to be made smaller, not bigger. Which is why I think it’s time to change your name. And I think the Evonne Goolagong Arena has a great ring to it."

The arena was originally known as Show Court One in 1998, but was renamed in 2003 in honour of Australian tennis great.
