If you were watching the 2017 Golden Globes last night, you may have heard a few shows whose name you didn’t recognise.

It’s not our fault, Australian streaming services drag their heels when it comes to delivering the goods.

In an effort to offset this great television injustice, we’ve cherry-picked the best winners and losers of last night’s awards.

The Night Manager:

It won:

Best performance by an actor in a limited series or a motion picture made for television – Tom Hiddleston; Best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a series, limited series, or motion picture made for television – Olivia Colman; Best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a series, limited series, or motion picture made for television –  Hugh Laurie.

It’s about:

The Night Manager follows the story of an ex-solider turned night porter (Tom Hiddleston) who is recruited to infiltrate the inner circle of a nefarious arms dealer (Hugh Laurie). It’s high-pace yet maintains the gentle mysterious air of your classic British crime.

Goliath:

It won:

Best performance by an actor in a drama television series – Billy Bob Thornton.

It’s about:

Goliath follows the story of a crumbling lawyer whose life has become nothing more than an endless stream of bars. He (Billy Bob Thornton) is offered a chance at redemption when he pursues the mysterious case of a wrongful death.

Atlanta:

It won:

Best musical or comedy television series; Best performance by an actor in a musical or comedy television series – Donald Glover

It’s about:

Atlanta follows the story of a young man’s (Donald Glover) attempts to manage his cousin’s rap career. The young agent repeatedly proves that he is willing to do anything to get his cousin to the next level.

Black-ish:

It won:

Best performance by an actress in a musical of comedy television series — Tracee Ellis Ross.

It’s about:

Black-ish presents a kind of Modern Family sitcom situation but with more heart, greater deconstructions of modern culture and better uses of subtle comedy. The plot follows the story of an upper-middle class African American family (headed by Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson) as they navigate modern life.

Better Call Saul.

It won:

Nothing! Bob Odenkirk was nominated for- Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series – Drama.

It’s about:

Better Call Saul is a spin-off prequel from Breaking Bad that follows the story of endearingly dishonest lawyer Saul Goodman. It presents a careful balance of heart, humour and truly clever writing.
