A TV Show about people watching TV shows sounds like a stupid idea.
Except Gogglebox was the breakout show of 2015, and it’s returning to our screens this week. NEW families, NEW shows. Opinionated television fanatics throwing one liners that will make you laugh, gasp and cringe.
Consider this your warning. Chuck a note in the diary. Put an alarm on your phone to remind you. Because Rosie Waterland, semi-professional TV watcher, says it’s GENIUS.
What makes it so good? As she explains in our TV podcast The Binge, there are three things that make this show irresistible:
The casting is brrrrrrilliant
It’s masterful. Gay couple Wayne and Tom, always with a cocktail in hand and a pithy one-liner. The posh indigenous art dealers Mick and Di, who sit ramrod-straight, shiraz in hand, trying to understand Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The Greek besties, Faye and Anastasia, who tell it like it is through a mouthful of ice cream.
You will LOVE them. All of them. For their honesty, their humanity and the uncensored observations that spring forth.
That’s a good look for you Adam and Symon!

The variety of shows will surprise you
The Gogglers watch a huge variety of programs. Sure, there will be the reality shows we all know, but they also watch David Attenborough documentaries, health shows, game shows, news and current affairs. The show offers a glimpse into the landscape and breadth of what’s on TV at the moment. And it’s not just bitchy comments over cups of tea and Tim Tams, there are moments of depth and gravitas too.
