Welcome to the Nothing To Wear Edit, where each week we break down the topic we spoke about on the podcast. Listen to the full episode here.
Global fashion month just ended. It's the four weeks that occur twice a year in which the iconic sartorial cities — New York, London, Milan, and Paris — host runway shows for the world's biggest brands.
These industry events set the scene for what styles will be sold in stores for the coming season, not just from the brands themselves, but from high street retailers who draw inspiration from the key trends.
Not all trends are looks us regular folk will adopt, but there are a few winners each time that quickly trickle down and become big within the mainstream.
Below are three I noticed that I will definitely be getting behind.
The East/West Bag.
This style of shoulder bag is so distinct in look, you'll know it when you see it.
The body is a baguette shape (a bit like a long, thin pencil case), while the straps are secured in the middle and have an elongated length.
The design was born from a utilitarian quest — women wanted a bag they could carry comfortably under the arm when wearing chunky layers and coats — the long handles mean the bag doesn't easily slip off when worn with winter outerwear.
Clever!

Cool Pumps.
The classic courtshoe has had a cool-girl glow-up.
Think a timeless pump (mostly with a closed back but sometimes a slingback, but with subtle tweaks).
The cut at the toe area is coming up higher on the foot, or heel quirky shapes or angles. There's also studs and other embellishments that give them an edgy twist.

Power Tailoring.
Masculine-inspired tailoring was massive at more shows than I can count. Power shoulders were everywhere, but not in a 1980s way with ruffles and embellishments - think more sharp and sleek.
Carrying through to accessories, neck ties were spotted at several shows paired with oversized shirts and blazers.
Belts are also back (not that they ever go out of fashion), but bigger in width and worn on the waist.
