Celeb news: Journalists lining up to replace Georgie Gardner.

There’s a long line of high-profile journalists vying for Georgie Gardner‘s gig on The Today Show. 

Since Georgie announced she was leaving her news reading position on the Today sofa, there’s obviously been a lot of speculation about who might replace her…

Here are the contenders.

1. Deborah Knight.

Deb’s the obvious choice because she presents the news of Weekend Today, so she’s already in the building and working for the station. She’s an accomplished news reader with many years experience.

2. Sylvia Jeffreys.

Sylvia Jeffreys has worked on the Today Show for years, as a reporter, correspondent and weekend host. She’s our second most obvious option, because viewers already like her and it’d be a smooth transition within the team.

3. Melissa Doyle.

Mel Doyle would be a really interesting, controversial choice – it would be huge to poach the ex-Sunrise host from rival station Channel 7 and would really cast doubt over the ‘reason’ she left breakfast TV in the first place.

4. Natarsha Belling.

Well, we know she’s available. Co-host of the recently axed breakfast TV show on Ten, Natarsha Belling already has the wake-up time, the format, and news reading skills to do the job well.

5. Julie Snook.

Julie’s an outside choice, but a possibility nonetheless. She presents the Qantas news in the morning, which is recorded at the Nine studios at 5am each day. So she’s around, she’s got presenting skills, she’s young.

6. Rebecca Maddern. 

Another controversial choice, but sort-of possible, Rebecca is working on Sunrise. Poaching her would be a big blow to Seven.

7. Wendy Kingston.

Wendy presents Nine News, so she’s already in-house. It’d be a move sideways and upward and earlier in the morning for Wendy.
