In the 1980s, there were a bunch of 'It' couples. Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford. Madonna and Sean Penn. Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. And another couple you could add to the very long list include Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis.
Davis and Goldblum first met on the set of horror/comedy film Transylvania 6-5000 in 1985. There was a connection at 'first sight'.
Goldblum later said he felt nervous during their first encounter because he instantly wanted her to really like him.
"I'm sitting there watching the dailies, and Ed Begley Jr. [their fellow Transylvania 6-5000 co-star] comes into the screening room with this stunning, this gorgeous girl, gorgeously shy. He starts to introduce her to everyone in the room, clockwise. I'm last, and by the time they get to me I'm thinking, 'Unnh, ahh, oh, this is bad, this is awful, I really like this woman and she's not going to like me. How can I ever make her like me?'" he recounted to GQ in 1989.
As for Davis the interest was reciprocated, but she was shy - worried he wouldn't realise that she in fact did really like him. Only on their first date did she reveal her true feelings.
"Finally, he takes me out to dinner one night, all serious, he says, 'We can't see each other anymore. I really like you, and you don't like me.' So I say, 'No, I really like you, too,' and that was it. I have this idea about people in your life. I think you recognise them, that they're right for you. I recognised Jeff."
