Turns out there's a hack for folding a fitted sheet (properly).

Arguably there are more pressing priorities in this life than the art of (properly) folding a fitted sheet.

But we are all stretched for space and even if we are lucky enough to have a "linen closet", then not having bunched-up rolled sheets is arguably a win. And once you know, you can't unknow.

So if you care to learn, below are the steps that will enable you to properly fold a fitted sheet, that will save you a lifetime of scrunched and bunched-up fitted sheets.

Step-by-step guide on how to fold a fitted sheet.

Step one: hold the sheet lengthwise by the corners so it's inside-out.

Place your hands inside the two corners of the longest ends of the sheet so that the shorter ends of the sheet are hanging down and the longer sides are stretched like below. Make sure the top of the sheet is facing your body and the bottom side is facing outward.

Step two: fold the corner in your right hand over the corner in the left.

Bring the two corners you're holding together and line the seams up with each other. Then, turn the right corner right-side-out so it wraps around the corner in your left hand. Kind of like when you're folding a sock over another.

Step three: add the front bottom corner to the top two.

Pinch the corners together with your left hand, then reach down the sheet with your right hand and grab the corner that's closest to you. Bring it up to the two corners you just folded together, and tuck it in so all three are folded neatly together.

Step four: bring the last corner up and straighten the edges of the sheet.

By now you should have one corner left hanging down, with the other three corners all in your left hand folded over each other. Fold the last corner in so it's lined up with the other ones, and use your hand to smooth out the edges that are hanging down.

Step five: Place the sheet on a table with the folded corners lined up.

After you've lined up all four corners of the sheet, you'll need to spread the folded sheet out on a flat surface. The four folded corners should be face-up in one corner, but don't worry if the sheet still looks a little messy at this point. Hot tip, don't let the corners unfold as you're laying the sheet down!

Step six: fold the sides in so the sheet is a rectangle.

Arrange it so the sheet seams of the corners create a new corner. Then, fold in the two sides on either side of that corner, so the sheet has neat, squared-off edges.

When you're finished, you'll see an L-shaped fold running along two edges of the sheet, with the elastic on the inside of the fold. Then voila! You can fold it neatly like a non-fitted sheet.

No bunched up scrunched up piles. Just a neat, flat folded fitted sheet.
