Fluff: Annie Lennox 'disturbed' by Miley Cyrus' performances.

1. First Sinead O’Connor and now Annie Lennox. The former Eurythmics lead singer has spoken out about Miley Cyrus and other female pop stars’ risque performances and music videos.

“I have to say that I’m disturbed and dismayed by the recent spate of overtly sexualised performances and videos,” Lennox wrote on her Facebook page.

“You know the ones I’m talking about. It seems obvious that certain record companies are peddling highly styled pornography with musical accompaniment.

“As if the tidal wave of sexualised imagery wasn’t already bombarding impressionable young girls enough..I believe in freedom of speech and expression, but the market forces don’t give a toss about the notion of boundaries. As long as there’s booty to make money out of, it will be bought and sold.

“It’s depressing to see how these performers are so eager to push this new level of low.Their assumption seems to be that misogyny- utilised and displayed through oneself is totally fine, as long as you are the one creating it. As if it’s all justified by how many millions of dollars and U tube hits you get from behaving like pimp and prostitute at the same time. It’s a glorified and monetized form of self harm.”

The Facebook update has been shared 15,144 times and had over 55, 400 likes and Lennox has posted another update qualifying what she meant about sexuality.

“On reflection I will say that sexuality is an inherent and profound part of life. There is absolutely nothing “wrong” about our sexuality or sensuality per se – But if a performing artist has an audience of impressionable young fans and they want to present a soft porn video or highly sexualised live performance, then it needs to qualify as such and be X rated for adults only.”

In other Miley Cyrus related news, the 20-year-old said she doesn’t think that people over 40 have sex.

During an interview with Matt Lauer on the US Today Show Miley Cyrus said: “I heard when you turn 40 things start to go a little less sexual. So probably around 40, I heard that’s when people don’t have sex anymore,” Miley said.

Lauer then asked Miley how old she thought he was. She guessed 40, but set himself up when he revealed his true age of 55.

“Oh, well, then you’re really definitely not sexual,” Miley said.

Awkward.

Ellen Pompeo has spent the last eight years playing Dr. Meredith Grey on Grey’s Anatomy, and the 43-year-old has spoken out about her decision not to leave the show when stars like Isiah Washington and Katherine Heigl did.

“When Katie left, it was tough. You could understand why she wanted to go — when you’re offered $12 million a movie and you’re only 26. But Katie’s problem is that she should not have renewed her contract. She re-upped, took a big raise and then tried to get off the show. And then her movie career did not take off.”

Heigl’s movie career includes The Ugly Truth, Knocked-Up, Life As We Know It and Once For The Money.

Pompeo also told the NY Post that originally, Isiah Washington was up for the role of McDreamy, instead of Patrick Dempsey.

“Shonda [Rhimes] really wanted to put a black man in the mix. I didn’t think they were really going to put an interracial couple on the show and I didn’t want him. It was too close to home,” said Pompeo who is married to African-American music producer Chris Ivery. 

“I said I wanted that Dempsey kid. I think that once Isaiah did not get the role it backfired.”
