Why one celebrity in particular doesn't think there's anything funny about Fiji Water Girl.

On Monday, the world collectively swooned over a woman in a blue dress holding a tray of water bottles.

Yes, the Golden Globes “Fiji Water Girl” captured the hearts of many after inserting herself slyly into the background of many a celebrity carpet snap – her posing prowess unparalleled, stealing the show from a myriad of A-list celebrities as she stared, rather disturbingly, straight down the barrel of the camera lens.

Marketing ploy or not, now-viral promotional model Kelleth Cuthbert’s photobombing skills were one of the most talked-about aspects of the awards ceremony (along with the echoing wails of despair that A Star is Born was straight-up robbed).

But not everyone has placed her squarely in their minds as their new favourite person.

One of which being, oh, only one of the most famous women in the whole damn world.

Jamie Lee Curtis.

The prolific actress took to Instagram to complain about the stunt, explaining that she usually goes out of her way to purposefully avoid being photographed next to branded content.

She went on to say Fiji Water should have sought permission from her before the photo was taken.

“I specifically moved away from the blatant promotions by Fiji and Moet where young women with their trays filled with their wares stood near a designated camera,” she wrote.

“I knew why there was a photographer poised there and I moved away as I said out loud that I didn’t want to be doing advertising for either.

“Clearly this angle shows that I moved from her being behind me and yet from the side it still happens.”

So, my husband, who doesn’t look at a lot of show business news sites, just mentioned that I was on the CNN website. I specifically moved away from the blatant promotions by Fiji and Moet where young women with their trays filled with their wares stood near a designated camera. I knew why there was a photographer poised there and I moved away as I said out loud that I didn’t want to be doing advertising for either. Clearly this angle shows that I moved from her being behind me and yet from the side it still happens. The sponsors of events need to get permission from people when they get them to take their picture next to products.

Ouch.

Speaking to Glamour magazine, Cuthbert denied her presence in the background of …almost every photo was intentional, telling the publication: “I just stand where I’m told, wherever there is an opening.”

Yes…We totally, 100 per cent believe you.

“You’re just kind of trapped sometimes,” she added. “See that’s the thing: I feel like I was looking away, but sometimes I was looking so I could move out of the way.”
